Does my child have to wear a magicband?

I know this sounds weird but my kids do not like wearing the magicbands. We have done several Disney cruises and they wore them because they had to but were not happy about it. My question is now that we are DVC I have read that to get access to the pools they will scan your bands. I was hoping my kids would not have to wear their bands at the resorts. Can my husband and I just wear ours to get in and out of pools or other band required locations? If they have to they obviously will wear them but just wanted to make sure this was true...

THey don't have to wear them but you do need a band for them to get in and out of the gate and checked if asked especially if you are at Beach/Yacht Club. You can always just throw them into your bag and they don't have to actually wear them. If the kids don't want to wear them you can also request that the bands be deactivated and you get Key To The World cards for the kids instead. That way they can enter the room, enter the parks, enter the swimming pools, use their FP+, and even still charge but don't have to have the band.

My dh doesn't like to wear one either, so I cut the ends of the band off just after the hard part, and rounded the edges, so now it's only about one inch long. It works and fits in his pocket well. We got a strange look from a cm, but he was just curious.

We put them on our grandkids ankle, that doesn't seam to bother them. Also when were in the parks.

I would also suggest ankles. I used to put ID bracelets on my kids ankles and they never complained at all.

Some of us don't wear them, but we do carry them in pockets, bags, purses. You need to have them handy for park admission and fast passes too, not just getting in the resorts and pools.

Let them pick out their own MB bling to make it theirs and tell them how great they look. Some interactions at Disney use the MB for them to work, like their names on a scoreboard.

Other than random checks during busy times (we've never experienced that) only SAB scans each person entering the area. Other pools with gates you would be fine with just yourself and your DH using one of your bands to enter.

No one ever has to *wear* them.

Not sure about for entering pool areas, bur for other uses you can still get cards from the front desk if you want want to use the bands.

We tell our DGS(4), that he needs to have his on incase either DW or I get lost that way a CM can use it to find us.
We have also, put it on his ankle, which he finds less of a bother.

We always ask for cards instead of bands. The one time I tried a band, the skin on my wrist broke out. The cards work everywhere a band does (and one CM told me they're more reliable - not sure if that's true, though).

During our trip earlier this month our young niece, age 3 suddenly decided she didn't want to wear her MB on day three of the trip, so her mom wore her daughter's MB on her other arm. But they could have requested a KTTW card for their daughter instead from the front desk.

I agree with the others that at most of the pools you really only need one MB to get in the gate, but if the lifeguards or a cast member asks you to prove your entire party are guests of the resort, then everyone would need to provide a MB or KTTW. That would be a rare occasion though when the pool is really overcrowded.

Please oh PLEASE don't rely on this.

It would be a rare occasion for the CM who finds him to be a CM who *has a phone* AND has the permission to use it. By no means do all CMs have phones on them.

And that's not their protocol. There might be instances where it has happened, but it's not the procedure at all.

Please do not rely on this.

My middle daughter does not like to have anything like that on her, so we just kept it attached to the strap on one of our backups and scanned it when we needed to. It was never an issue.

I wear mine on one wrist and one of my children's on the other wrist. I scan both on all the FP rides.

I'm sure the poster was saying this as a ploy to get the child to wear it. Also, it states if the adult gets lost not as a tracking device for a lost child.

There are many adults who thinks it works that way, so honestly I doubt it.

And telling the kid that is setting expectations for him, too. They need to be showing him cast members and cash registers (be finding a CM at a register is good to do if you get separated), not telling myths that the band will reunite him.
