Does my 1st grader need a yearbook?

I realize it's only $23, but is it just going to collect dust or will she appreciate it later? Bear in mind, I have no clue where any of my yearbooks are

I have 3 girls 8th, 10th 12th and I bought all the yearbooks through middle school. They look at them all the time. I stopped at high school...$50 a pop. I will buy one for each of them senior year.

When I was growing up we received a yearbook in 5th grade and each year after. I did not order my 1st grader a yearbook this year and probably will not until middleschool.

I am not a fan of the elementary school yearbook trend. Our schools didn't have yearbooks until jr. high and those were little paperback books. There were no expensive hardback yearbooks until high school. I didn't buy my kids yearbooks in the younger grades. Starting around 4th grade, they wanted them because they were more into getting autographs from their friends.

Need, probably not. Want one, if all of her friends are getting them....that's another story.

Ours are only $15 and we will be getting our 1st and 4th graders each one. My 4th grader still likes to flip through the old ones for some reason.

No, I would not buy a yearbook for a 1st grader. I have several yearbooks from high school, plus my kids yearbooks. I'll send you one of them if you just have to have one.

I get my daughter one every year from K-5 so far. They get them the last three days of school and all the kids get to go to all their friends, teachers, past teachers and specials teachers and have them sign them.

Need, no. I have some of my yearbooks from grade school and I wish I still had them all. It is nice to look back and see how my friends and I progressed throughout our lives.

I would get it, $23 isn't a lot for a lifelong keep sake.

When I was a kid there were no "year books" until high school - the most I have from my elementary years are class photos.. Still to this day I'll drag out my 1st grade class photo to see if people can find me in the picture.. (No glasses then..) Rarely do they ever get it right - and they're also quite surprised to see the 1st grade photos of friends that I'm still in contact with..

I could be biased though.. I'm "all about" memories; photos; scrapbooks; etc.. It's very meaningful when you're older and you have those things to look back on..

I felt the same way ...until my DS got upset cause everyone else had one. When he was in 1st grade, my DD was in 5th, so I got one thinking they could share it. Well my DS was upset because everyone in his class was signing them and his sister had the yearbook. I know- signing a yr book in first grade, crazy lol. But after that it wasn't worth it for him to feel left out.

My 10th grade DD has them going back to kindergarten and she still looks at them quite a bit. Of course, she's in a smaller private school that goes from K-12 and so my DD has been in a lot of photos in every single yearbook. Evn I like to look at them some to see how all of the kids and teachers have changed since then. One or two of her favorite teachers got married and moved away and it's especially nice to have all the photos of them.

In my house that's what allowance is for. DS10 chooses not to buy, DD9 bought 1st grade but not 2nd--we'll see about 3rd. Now of course I'll buy the high school ones when the time comes.

There it is! SOLD! I'm buying one. The form specifically states that none will be available for sale when they come in so order now (that could be a ploy to get me to buy one now, but even still). DD would be heartbroken and I would pay the price . I never thought about 1st graders signing, but I can see her teacher allowing some time for that!

I am a 1st grade teacher & I do give the kids time (usually one of the last few days of school) to sign each others yearbooks. Our yearbooks are $21.00/regular & $24.00/personalized with name on front.

Each 1st grader has a 5th grade BIG BUDDY & the Big Buddies/Little Buddies do sign each other's yearbooks.

For the kids that don't have the yearbooks, I have them assemble little "autograph" books so that they can go around the room & get the autographs too.

I'm glad you are getting one. For $23 it is worth the small price. My neighbor is nearing 40 and she still complains how she had to share HS year books with her brother.

My DS looks at his occasionally. He has a friend (girl) who goes through them nearly daily. She is a little obsessive about it but she can recognize almost every kid in the school.

For $23 just buy the book and then put it in a keepsake box so she has them all when she is older.

Does anyone really need a yearbook? By the time your DD graduates high school won't the entire history of the world be on facebook(or whatever comes after that!)????

If I were a yearbook company, I'd be worried.

I'm 36 and when old friends are over we'll still pull out our elementary school yearbooks (along with high school).

Does she need it? Probably not. Will she appreciate it someday, maybe? I buy my kids yearbooks every year. But then, I also saved the newspaper from the day they were born, the newspaper from the day after 9/11 and various stuff like that.

I would say yes get one! I'm 23 and I love looking at my old yearbooks especially the elementary school ones!!

My daughter, 7, looks at them. My son, 12, too be honest, I'm not sure if he ever even opened one.

He is now in a different school and I decided to not buy one....then.....he was a finalist in the Geography bee so, guess I am changing my mind.
