Does Mulan (face character) converse in Chinese?

We have friends planning for their first visit and they are character crazy! They've been watching movies and their DD's favorite is Mulan. She's wondering if she learns a few simple Chinese phrases if Mulan would respond in Chinese.

We've met Mulan a few times but never spoke to her in anything other than English and don't think I've seen this addressed on the Dis.

Does anyone know? Thanks!

I'm not sure, but most of the Mulans I have seen in WDW seem to be of Hispanic descent so I wouldn't bank on Mulan knowing Chinese. Then again, learning a few simple words (hello, goodbye) may be part of her training. You never know you may get a Chinese Mulan who does speak Chinese.

We were waiting to meet Peter Pan last year in FantasyLand and he was engaged with a group of visitors and they all seemed deep in conversation. All of the young people in the group were very animated and I suddenly realized that they were all speaking Japanese, including Peter!!

When it was our turn to meet him, I commented on how impressed I was with his language skills and wondered when he had learned Japanese - his response? "I get lots of practice when I land in Tokyo Disney"! I then used my very limited French to ask if he knew French thanks to Disneyland Paris and he answered in French!!

So, I wouldn't be surprised if Mulan happens to know at least a bit of Chinese.

You never know....Last time though the cast member playing Mulan understood and responded in Lao when I was talking to my kids.

Totally freaked out my girls.

We've greeted her with "Ni How" (OK probably spelled that wrong) and she responded with it as well but I wouldn't bank on her knowing Chinese.

My DH is a smartbutt, so he decided to see if he could "mess" with Mulan last time we met her. She looked Chinese, not Hispanic, so he asked her, "Mmm-goy, tee-saw hai been-doh-ah? (where is the bathroom) and she responded back with a very long chinese answer to our question and he didn't understand a word she said and was all embarressed.

I told him it served him right for trying to mess with her. So yes, our Mulan in october 2012 was very Chinese!

If not Mulan, then the cast members at the China pavilion will definitely speak Chinese!

Might have been because he was speaking Cantonese Chinese, and she responded in Mandarin Chinese? (Mandarin by far is more commonly spoken)

For the uninitiated, these are not different dialects, they are pretty much different languages. Example: "Mm-goy" is thank you in Cantonese, but in Mandarin thank you is "shay-shay".
