Does Mousekeeping Clean in a special way when there is a stomach virus on the rampage

But Belle5, I do think WDW cleans the rooms differently when they are aware a guest has been sick. A couple of years ago our DS2 caught a virus while we were there. He was quite ill and we called for extra towels, clean bedspread etc. They also came and shampooed the carpet while we were there. Anyway, after we checked out our daughter realized she had left something in the bedside table. I went back to the room and there was a cart outside but the maid wasn't cleaning yet. I can't remember exactly what it was, but there was some indication that it was going to be getting extra attention. Sorry for my fuzzy memory but it made me feel better.

Thanks BCV23! This is the kind of thing I was looking to hear. We're a little gun-shy after spending $12,000+ on our family of eight's last vacation in January of 2006 and most of it spent in bed ill. We were healthy the first week and picked up something the second week. My DH had to get off the airplane and go straight to the hospital. No, it didn't come from the hotel room but when I read about people getting sick all over the carpet, etc. I just want to make sure that not only will we not smell anything but that some good disinfectant has been used! Honestly, as much as we have traveled, we have never felt like we have picked up anything from the hotel room itself. Still, when one reads about vomit being all over a room--you just want to know it's properly dealt with...

Handi wipes--a quick swipe of the bar on the ride BEFORE you let the kids touch it and you're set. Our grocery store has them by the shopping baskets so you can wipe the handle of your basket down before use.

I take my lysol and spray down everything in the room

Wash hands frequently. Don't forget the gels and such are designed for use as an alternative when hand washing is not available--hand washing is available at WDW--they have tons of bathrooms.

Unfortunately a lot of the character meals are buffets (think CM, CP, 1900, etc). Book first available not last available ---then fewer people have touched the serving utensils.

Keep well rested and HYDRATED (not soda--water or juice).

Have the kids avoid the playplaces if possible (playgrounds, etc)

Yep move over and make some room for me.... I got a big hiney so I need a bit more room or I can just sit on the floor with everyone else.

The most that I do is take the top spread and throw it in the corner.... Otherwise I walk with bare feet on the floor and use the remote and sometimes even drink out of the glasses if I do not have my disney mug....and I have never gotten sick from the hotel room...

I think it is funny that most of the people that have gotten sick are the ones that are cleaning everything....

I actally think you need to be exposed in order for your body to be strong enough to fight stuff off.... I had a friend that would carry wipes with her everywhere she went and wiped down tables and toilets and handles and EVERYTHING before she would let her son touch anything and....... he was ALWAYS sick...... I only wiped down stuff when it was clearly dirty and my daughter was/is almost never sick.....

Now I am gonna start nocking on every piece of wood in my house cuz we leave in less than 2 weeks.

I knocked on my computer desk for you too!:wizard: Of course, it is fake wood, but it looks like wood, so that should still count, right?

I'll gladly sit on the floor by the rest of you! I never take the bedspread off of my bed, I walk on the carpet in my bare feet, I use the glasses, and worst of all, I don't disinfect the remote either.:earseek:

I will admit to purelling a couple of times at the buffets, right before eating. But that is all, I swear!:p

OK, I just booked an Animal Kingdom Grand Villa for all of us couch sitters! That will give us quite a bit more room....

(AND I ordered a subscription to 'Canadian Plumber' magazine for CanadianGuy ;) )

I'm one of the people who's families' got sick last week in WDW. My DH, DD and DS were all sick with the stomach bug and I was paranoid about being in the room with them after they'd been in it for 24 hours and I had to sleep with them! I called housekeeping at CBR at approximately 7pm to clean the room, because they hadn't been able to get in the room at all that day.

I'd gone to the resort gift shop to look for Lysol or disinfectant and couldn't find anything. I'm not normally paranoid about germs so all I had with me was Purell. When I called housekeeping I explained the situation about sickness in the family and asked that they bring disinfectant. They told me they couldn't use disinfectant with us in the room and I told them I'd get everyone out of the room for an hour or however long I had to. I figured I could stick the family in hammocks on the beach or something. :confused3

When two ladies from housekeeping came I explained the illness and asked that they disinfect and they told me they couldn't use any chemicals in the room. I will tell you that these ladies were wonderful. They changed the sheets, blankets, quilts, even the shower curtain. They did it as quickly as possible and I slipped them each some money.

In the end it didn't matter, I got sick anyway and I don't know if actually using disinfectant would have helped, given that I was sleeping with the sickos. :rotfl:

I will tell you, however, that I'll never travel without Clorox Wipes again. I don't think we got that germ from the room, but my mental health would have been improved if I'd been able to at least do something to avoid getting sick. :wizard:

Make room for me on the couch :confused3

My DW cleaned our room with Lysol and Clorox Wipes. My DD5 is allergic to everything, so we also brought a Room Air Sanitizer (Hygia 6) that kills several airbourne germs(Cold, Flu, Strep. Etc.) and we had a great 7 days!!

Our family/friends on the other hand caught the stomach virus. I did notice with "mouse keeping" that they DONT wear gloves. When they cleaned out my friend's room with 2 boys sick (stomach virus). Those boys threw up on everything floor, bed, trash can etc... They tried to make it but boys will be boys. The mousekeepers came in and took out the soiled linen and vacuumed BUT they never washed up. They just brought in new linens. Mouse keepers then moved to the next room. The stomach virus is one of the most contagious viruses out there. They didnt wash there hands or clean up afterwards. They simple go from room to room. Needless to say my friends vacation was ruined his DW had one day in the parks, and spent the rest of the week enjoying their rooms with sick kids.

We brought our own linens also. I simply did not want to take the chance seeing we paid so much for CR/MK View.

Shame on you, no purelling :sad2: in this group. Only soap and water is allowed, I think :confused3.

Well, how nice of you. We will already be at the AKL anyway, so won't have too far to travel

Well, that grand villa should accommodate us quite well. I take the top spread off, but only because it is too heavy and scratchy. I am hoping not to do that at CR, since They appear to be down comforters .

You aren't kidding, is does look like the ones with the sick kids are the ones that wipe everything down. I don't appreciate people coughing and sneezing in my face, but I think it is ridiculous to wipe down everything in the room. What is the point of going on vacation if you have to sanitize everything around you before you touch it. Do you wear your shoes in the shower? What do you do with the clothes you wear to bed, do you throw them out or sanitize them? If you child wipes their snotty nose on their shirt, do you have another shirt to change them into? If sorry, but that is just ridiculous. It sort of reminds me of when HIV/AIDS was first known about and everyone was freaking out about touching other people and where they were/had been, that was just a ridiculous. Working in the healthcare field, both clinical and clerical, I know when to be cautious and when not to be and you people are over the top.

Rant over for now, onto the next item of the day, Would anyone like some popcorn while we are gathering popcorn:: I promise I will wash my hands before we share.

Why bother washing your hands?
You may be killing good bugs?

Sure, I always love me some popcorn! Does it have extra butter too?:yay:

I'll even share my pop with you! Me and my friends like to live dangerously like that!

I think it is about that time to get in your last comments. We are straying off topic here. Thank you everyone.

I guess my last comments will be...

I agree that people can go over the top with the cleaning. I personally use all organic cleaning agents that are all natural and not filled with chemicals and antibacterial agents. I agree that we do need to build up our immune systems

BUT...

with that being said, I would rather not do that on my vacation. Me and my immune system building are on vacation and yes, I will clean the remotes and change the bedspread. I have spent good money to come to WDW and I just dont feel like taking any extra chances! With all the staph infections on the news and the flu going around, I would rather wipe everything down, get sick, and say "Well I guess it didnt work" than not wipe the stuff down, get sick, and then go "Geesh, I should have been more careful."

But thats just me. To each thier own!

I understand that mousekeeping has a tremendous job to do, but it would be nice if they could take a little time in the rooms where people have obviously been sick.
