How does the month of your points matter? If my husband can only get vacation in Dec or July will it matter the month the points are given out? I'm new at this and don't even know if I'mm phrasing the question correctly-I don't know the terminology yet!

Yes you phrased everything properly. Month really doesn't matter a whole lot, as you can always bank and/or borrow to make your vacation points work for you. I usually vacation in March, so I chose a March use year just to make life simple. In your case vacationing 2 months, six months apart makes things a little to difficult to make a best fit, however banking and borrowing will make your difficulties disappear. It is just that when you call to make a reservation, you will probably have to tell MS that you vave to bank or borrow, before you have enough points to make your resservation. No big deal though, just a small technicality to do before booking.

Your use year bears no relationship to when you can go (which is any time of year) or when you can call to make a ressie (which is always 11 months in advance at home resort, 7 at others). It does determine the day on which you get your annual allotment of points (the first day of the use year) and your banking dates--for example you have until the end of the 6th month of your use year to bank all your points into the next use year. Because of that banking cut-off date, many like to get a use year that begins 6 months or less before the usual month of the year they go. The reason is that if they need to cancel they will still, upon cancellation, have time to bank all their points. Other than that cancellation/banking risk there is little reason to care about when your use year begins.
