Does Main Street Barbershop still do "Princess Braids?"

when we were in the world last september, my dd had her hair french braided (aka "Princess Braid") and it was a great cool way for her to wear her hair... i read some reports over the winter that the barbershop was going to be limiting its services to boys' haircuts... does anyone know if that ever came "true" or if dd can still get a Princess Braid? princess:

We had our almost 2 yr old DD's haircut and styled in May- I don't really know about the braids I guess but they never said anything about doing only boys or anything- we tried to get my 4 yr oldDD to wake up enough to get her hair done too but she was too tired and comfortable in her seat! :cloud9:

DD5 had her hair cut and styled in May. They didn't braid it (didn't even offer), but I love how it came out anyway. They gathered up part of the front of her hair into a ponytail, spread it out so that it almost looked like a fountain, and then painted a Mickey head on one side followed by a sprinkling of Mickey pixie dust over the whole thing. Here's her PhotoPass picture from a little later that day:

thanks for responding... i guess we'll have to wait and see... best not make any promises! LOL!

ksoehrlein, your dd is a cutie! love the pixie dust! LOL!

Oh I would love for my DD to have her hair done in the princess braid on the morning we do CRT, she will be dressed in her Jasmine Costume and a braid would be perfect with the costume and tiara...

My dd had it done last year and loved it. She had her hair braided and they put the green glow gel and mickey head confetti in her hair. We're planning on doing this again this trip. We'll try first thing in the morning. We were there at the park opening and still waited an hour, but it was worth it!

I hope they still do!!! I would love to get my hair in "princess" braids. That green glow gel and mickey confetti sounds great to put in your hair!! I have also heard that they will use colored hair spray and design a ::MickeyMo onto the back of your head. I have never done this before though.

My DD10 wanted to have this done in June while we were there. We went into the barbershop and there were people in the chair, but no line. One of the barbers asked jokingly if my DD wanted all her hair cut off. When we said no, we just wanted it braided, he told me they dont do that there anymore...that there is no one there to braid hair anymore since it is a barbershop. They were very nice about it, said the only place now is at the contemporary? We were disappointed, because I hadnt heard that they stopped. But oh well, we got her hair wrapped later in the trip.

juls, thanks for the (unfortunate) first-hand information... i know some of the deluxes (CR, GF, SSR) have beauty salons that i am sure would do a french braid, but the fun of the barbershop could not be beat... oh, well, i guess we'll scratch that off the list :(

how busy is it there? My son has been waiting to get his hair cut--it looks like a mop right now! We won't be there for 2 more weeks! I want to do it but kind of hate to take precious "first hour" time away from riding and FP! Are there long lines during the day?

The stylists at the GF salon said they do a lot of braiding for kids hair.

when we were there, we went at the end of the day and there would have been "no" line 'cept for the family of eight children who arrived only minutes before us! all eight got their hair cut (girls all had beautiful straight blonde hair and had their ends cut, so no "hairstyles" just straight cuts) and some of the girls got braided... so we waited quite a while... but we also used the time to do some shopping on main street w/one adult/one kid venturing off at a time while the other held our place...

ergo, i don't think "first thing" is written in stone, i'd go at the end of the day again :)

When we went early June, I asked them if they were still doing braiding, and he said NO, the stopped doing it. They didn't really say why they stopped but hinted that it had something to do with a customer complaining, liabilities, etc. So the uppers decided to stop the practice.

At one point they used glow-in-the-dark color too and they stopped that after they got some complaints from customers.

Another time they used little tiny edible metallic confetti (like for cake decoration) that was really really pretty and they stopped that too because some complaints, liabilities issues, etc etc.

So, short answer... NO. No more braiding. Cuts, color and pixie dust only.

Still 9am-5pm, walk-in only, $17 adults, $14 kids, tips are welcome.

That metallic Mickey confetti was certainly NOT edible! :scared:

no, no... not the mickey head confetti - :rotfl: I wouldn't want to eat those either!

At one time they used these little sparkles that was actually cake decorating sprinkles. Very small but really cool.

They were kind of like this:

Yuck! I wouldn't want anything edible in my kid's hair! With the aggressive birds all over the place, who would have thought this was a good idea in the first place?!?

I can't wait until my trip to The World in Jan./Feb.!!!! I will definitely try to get my hair in "princess braids" with glow gel and mickey confetti!!!! I love the idea! Thanks everyone for bringing up this thread!

Has anyone else heard anything about the hair salons in the deluxe resorts? Do they do the same thing as in "princess braids" at the salons as the Main Street Barbershop? Thanks again!!!!
