Does Kona Cafe do carry out?

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in October. I was wondering if I can get Kona Cafe to go? I will have my 5 year old and 1 year old on the trip and we are doing a lot of character dinners and what not and would like to have some meals to be more down time in our room.

No, they don't do carryout. You can order room service, or you can go to the restaurant, sit down, order the meals, eat a bite and then have them packed up to go, but they won't take a carryout order.

I believe you can get the sushi to go from the Kona Island Sushi Bar. I know that you can order any Kona Cafe menu items at the sushi bar, but I'm not sure you can get any to carry out.

Thanks everyone. I figured we would be doing Captain Cooks carry out already for tonga toast and pork sandwiches. Was hoping I could get shrimp and scallops carry out. I don't think I want to go thru the whole sit down, order, get the food and then take it back. Maybe I'll do sushi carryout if possible and the boys can happily eat uncrustables in our room before we head back out to the parks.

I have to say I am totally obsessed with the information on this site.

One time while we were eating at the Kona Island Sushi Bar another guest was ordering it as take out, so you can do that.

I can verify that the Kona Sushi Bar does 'take out' for any of their sushi menu items. They also have a menu there of Kona Deserts that can be ordered from the Cafe for take out as well. We've personally ordered both sushi and deserts from the Sushi Bar to take back to our room for a late night snack.

As already mentioned, Kona Cafe does not typically allow take out orders from the main restaurant... but most items are on the room service menu for Poly guests so you could order in and have a nice dinner that way.

can confirm as of May 2010 they were not allowing take-out orders from Kona Cafe...was in a long line at check-in on a Saturday night. A woman in front of us was trying very nicely to talk them into taking an order for take out (non-reservation wait for tables was 90 minutes at 7:30) They very nicely told her No,they do not have the facilities to handle take-out orders...just enough staffing to cover the tables...would need extra cooks/prep, etc. to make more food than what they use at the tables. They also recommended the sushi bar or Captain Cook's for fast food, or room service if she was a hotel guest..

Do you think you can get that at the sushi bar? We often go to Poly as an afternoon break and get a snack at Cook's--but this would be WAY better--do you think I could order one? Would we need to eat it there or could we sort of take it with us to Cook's?

We ate at Kona once, and while the food was fine, it just felt like any old restaurant--and when we're at Disney we want to feel that feeling at dinner too. This would be a great compromise!!

Well besides the Sushi you can also order off the full Kona Cafe menu at the Kona Island Sushi Bar, so if it's on their menu I guess the answer would be a yes.

We've gotten take out from Kona many times. We love to get their sticky wings, noodles, burgers and so on and take them to the pool for lunch. We have even picked up kids meals there too.
