Does July 4th need walking?

I was reminded today that my DD2's school closes in July for a couple of weeks, so I will likely use this time as vacation.

Does a trip over July 4 require walking? Both at 11 months or 7?

It doesn't at 11. At 7 it can fill up fast, but 7 month walking can be awkward anyway.

Obvious exception case for "hard to get" would be VGC, but that's any month of the year.

Whether you have any 11 month issue depends on which resort you own. It is unlikely to be an issue except for some risk otherwise at AKV (if seeking club level or value studios or 2BRs), BWV (seeking standard view studios or 2BRs), OKW (seeking a GV in the near Hospitality House booking category), or CCV (seeking a studio or 2BR lock-off). Though walking might succeed, you could have issues even finding a time to start walking particularly for AKV club level or value studios.

At 7 months out, many things can be open but a number of things can be gone. Likely you will not be able to get BWV GVs or boardwalk view studios and 2BRs, BLT GVs or standard or TP view rooms, anything other than cabins or GVs at CCV, BRV studios, BCV other than 1BRs, AKV Jambo GVs, studios and 2BRs, VGF studios, OKW GVs, and also OKW studios in the near Hospitality House booking category. There is also some risk that AKV Kidani standard studios, BWV pool/garden view studios and BLT lake view studios might fill before 7 months out. As to walking at 7 months out, you have the issue that even if you can find an opening to begin walking, days you are trying to walk into can easily be booked by owners of the particular resort just before 7 months out. However, I have seen in past years that some rooms may actually show July 3 and 4 open as late as seven months out from June 28 but thereafter fill, i.e., if you actually started a walk by reserving a start date of June 28, you might walk into them for July 3 and 4 time because the rooms are open for June 28 to July 5 at 7 months out from June 28. Rooms where that has occurred include BLT lake view studios and GVs, BWV pool/garden view studios, BRV studios, and AKV Jambo studios.

I would book a standard/Savanna view Studio or 1 bedroom, most likely, at AKV. Then if I can switch at 7 months switch.

It would be a yearly vacation for a while - my DD's school has year round care, but they close every July for a couple of weeks and it just makes the most sense to coordinate that with a yearly trip too. But since July 4th is in there I wanted to make sure I didn't need to walk my home resort too to ensure I have a room.

My kids started in year round elementary and we loved the end of Sept-early Oct intersession for WDW trips. Got 2 years out of that. Then we moved and they went to traditional school. Anyway, we did July 4th week once. And we booked BWV and VWL as a split with our OKW points at 7 months out. But we got a 1BR. Studios are harder. And this was 10 years ago. But I'd book home resort and then see what you can switch to at 7 months. If 1BR, you should have some options. Here is a thought...book half week at AKV in stand view and half in AKV savannah and then at 7 months it's more likely you'll get a desired resort for at least one part and can just modify online.

No - at 11 months the only issue you might find other than AKV value rooms would likely be BLT - MK view, but if you don't own there it's a non issue.

I had Poly last year over the 4th, no problem at 7 months. Watched the fireworks on the beach on 7/3, then went to Epcot for 7/4.

We generally go from June 30-July 6 and never walked. Who know these days?? We are set for 2020, BLT then BCV.
