Does it matter who "Guest 1" on a reservation is?

We have a split stay coming up, and we traded reservations to get another member's home resort priority. Since we usually stay on our own points, usually DH or I are "Guest 1", and I check in. Somehow, even though its through different people, MS software seems to have put our DF as the "Guest 1" on all of our reservations.

If this person ends up not coming due to work issues, am I going to have trouble checking in? And even if he is able to join us as planned, will they want his credit card to secure the room rather than ours? (I find it funny that we have 8 people in the room, 5 adults, but the only one who does not yet have a plane ticket is the one who somehow ended up at the top of the reservation list.) Do I need to have the people who made the reservation for me change the guest list order?

As you have learned, Disney software sucks. Any adult can check in. I would apply your CC using online check in.

If you are booking a DCL, yes it matters. Once a DCL reservation is made, if you try to change the first person on the reservation, you will be required to cancel and rebook.

As Bill said it doesn't matter who is listed as the lead for the resorts - anyone listed can check in. In fact the reservaton software seems to be randomly moving guests around in position. I always make reservations under my name and then depending on DH's schedule either add him or don't. On our last trip even though he was added as a guest he was on as lead at check-in. Before that on another reservation my niece got bumped up to the top. The only problem can be the front desk locating the reservation but just go thru every name that would be on the list and eventually they'll hit on one. :rolleyes1

If you do that, every adult in your unit will have charging privileges on your card. ":yay:," They said!

Also, bring your member card so you can get any discounts, since your key card may not have the DVC designation printed on it.

When you check in you can give them your confirmation number. I had to do that when they couldn't find the reservation under anyone's name, there were two couples; he even read off every first name that matched our last name! It was the confirmation number I had in my phone that saved us.

If you do Magical Express, the lead person will probably get all the luggage tags for that room in the mail. At least that is what happened to us last October. It was a mess because we had multiple couples staying in a GV and in a 2 bedroom. The leads had to sort the tags and re-mail them to the appropriate people.

Good point. The charging privileges can be modified at check in but that will require new cards for each guest.

usually the one making reservations is guest one and that is who they sent all mail to and say with mine all the email comes to me and then I forward it on to my sisters. personally would have this in someones name that you are sure is going on this trip

Thanks for all the great information. Since its a resort reservation, and they only have one address to send the ME stuff to, I'm not too worried about it. I'll probably do online check in anyways, since we're planning on that first day being a park day and go directly from OKW to AK, then not check into our main reservation at BLT until 4p or so. We can just adjust the key card charging privileges at that time since we were also planning on adding our MYW tickets.

Man, WDW is such a different and more complex beast than planning a DLR vacation!

This pattern of rotating lead guest's names is new. When we checked into AKV in May I gave them my name at the guard shack. He had no record of the reservation. This was somewhat alarming since this had never happened before. At the front desk they couldn't find my reservation either. It took a manager to find the reservation since my friend was listed as lead and it was her name they had to look for not mine. In my vacation planning section of the 10 reservations I have, I am only listed as lead on one of them. From now on I'm going to always have a copy of my reservation with me. I don't know what the reason or purpose is for rotating the lead.
