Does it bother you to borrow points?

We have borrowed from the beginning back in 93. We wanted to to take advantage of those free park tickets.

As long as you have your most likely trip senarios planned over a year in advance, borrowing is not a problem because you know where points are coming from for each trip.

We try not to do to much borrowing...a few points here and there, usually to make the most out of an annual pass. Then we take a break and start the cycle again.

It doesn't bother us to borrow at all. We've been members since 93 with 180 points and have used them well. What's the problem? If you end up borrowing until 2041, you just won't take a trip in 2042. Since I'll be 94 by then, I don't really care. My son and any possible grandchildren down the line will just have to suffer.

DH and I have completely different philosophies about borrowing. We are planning to bring family down next Christmas, and I was planning as economically with the points as possible, thinking I'd find some nice OKW owner to swap for my BWV points. DH says, "Let's stay in a Grand Villa at the BW. It's all about location." Sure, but with that option we are borrowing most of next year's points. His answer? We just won't go that summer. That would mean 18 months with no Disney trip!!! How could someone suggest such a thing?!

Borrowing is bad. It requires a Disney-free year to catch up!

It bothers me more to bank than to borrow because it means I haven't gone to WDW enough this year!

Seriously, if you have the same plans every year and are in a constant state of borrowing, that means you need to either alter your plans or add on. If your plans differ every year and this year happens to be a "higher point usage" year and you know that some years in the future will be "lower point usage years" I would have no problem borrowing. We took a cruise on borrowed points last year knowing that this year (with me graduating grad school and starting a new job) we wouldn't be able to use all of our points. I actually BANKED some this year and we are "only" taking 1 short trip. If you actually get into a bind where you run out of points and need a year to recover you could always a) skip disney that year (GASP!) b) rent points c) get a regular hotel room (double gasp!)

We only have 150 points, too, and we "joined" in 2001. So far - we've had 7 nights in a one bedroom at HHI (9/02) and 7 nights in a 2 bedroom at VWL (5/03). Our HHI was almost entirely covered (if not in full, I can't remember) by our MB points (if I remember right we bought in June with a Dec. use year but still got a full year's points??? Can't remember exactly). Our VWL trip required us to borrow a few points from next year. But this is where use year (ours is December) seems to work really well for us. Even though we'll borrowing for a December '04 cruise, in Dec. '05 we'll have the ability to borrow from the next year again. When we bought 150 points we thought realistically we'd probably get a week's vacation every 1 1/2 years, but if you're not afraid to borrow and play around with the points, you can vacation every year and not just in a studio.

This works well for the time being ... an add on is definitely in the future though.

You can only borrow from the next year, so if keep borrowing every year the worst that happens is that you do not get to go in 2042.

I'll probably be borrowing yearly. I don't see it as a deficit in my account, as it would be for a bank account. I see it as reallocation of my points to travel when I want to.

If you bought considering studios and now you want a 1-bedroom all the time...well...it's time to add on.
