Does GCV have a transient tax?

Since the tax is included in VGC owner dues, it's not collected if someone uses non-VGC points to book.
And that implies that VGC owners pay that tax even on points they use at other resorts. I guess it all evens out as far as Anaheim is concerned, since they collect the tax on all the VGC points independent of where those points are actually used. Thus there is no reason for someone making a VGC reservation using point from a non-VGC contract to be assessed that tax.

The tax for staying in a hotel or resort in Orange County, FL is 12.5% -- 6.5% is a state sales tax, and 6% a county transient tax. That applies to stays in all the Disney World resorts except All-Stars -- it is located in a different county, Osceola, which has a 7% transient tax, thus making a stay there taxed 13.5%.The difference between Florida and Anaheim is that those Florida taxes apply to cash (rental) stays and not your timeshare stay. Note, however, that if you were to rent to someone else a stay in a DVC room in Florida, you are required to report and pay over the taxes to applicable government authorities. One never knows when that "timeshare" difference from cash hotel and resort stays might disappear via legislation.
So they could add this tax to DVC in Florida at any time?😱

Only if Orange County, Florida, decided to levy such a tax against all timeshares in Orange County, FL, or the State of Florida decided to levy such a tax against all timeshares in the state of Florida. It would have to go through the governing body of either the county or the state.

Good grief.

GVC does have the tax, but Disney worked out a much better deal at the time so it’s drastically lower. It’s also included in the dues so you don’t really have to worry about it at the end of your stay.

The craziest part is even with it being included in the dues and VDH being new. VGC still has lower dues than VDH (where it’s not included in the dues). VDH also got a pretty huge bump in dues this year for a resort that’s not even 6 months old.

I am definitely glad I chose to get a VGC contract early this year when the prices dipped for a bit… especially with VGC getting a full Referb in 2024. I almost waited for VDH. But when the price on VGC hit the low 200’s I jumped.

VDH has 2 things going for it over VGC. It’s more updated and the contract is longer… The more updated rooms advantage will shift to VGC in late 2024… and I’ll be 82 when the VGC contract expires… so 🤷‍♂️

Hmm wonder if the rental companies tell all the members they need to collect and cover this fee....lol

I am sure there is a disclaimer in the fine prints of the contract that says it's owner's responsibility to comply with all laws/rules/regulations.

I'd sell my points . No way am I paying that tax .
That would be the "straw that broke the camels back" for me. Disney is nickel and diming you to death as it is now and this would just push me over the edge. The whole reason for my family purchasing DVC was to have a more relaxing vacation by essentially having a 2 bedroom apartment for the family to spread out in and to save money making use of the kitchen for more that 50% of our meals.
