Does DVC have the right to eliminate room categories?

I guess this really only applies to AKVs. From what i've heard, Value and Concierge rooms are only going to be available in Jambo house. If they wanted to, can DVC decide to make Jambo house Hotel only again once Kidani Village opens? Well, now that I think about, my contract says I purchased a real estate interest at Jambo house... ????

You do own a specific % in a "unit" located within Jambo House. In order to return that ownership back to AKL I would think they would need to buy back all of those contracts (and I'd hope those owners would not relinquish them easily or cheaply) or offer to trade them for Kidani contracts (...again, I'd hope Jambo owners would not agree to that trade easily or cheaply).

Otherwise, there isn't likely any way to just "de-annex" the Jambo villas leaving those who own them in the cold.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over that occurence. ;) :)

It's also worth noting that there's probably a reason those rooms got converted to DVC units---namely, they were having a hard time filling AKL. This property used to be one of the most reliable in terms of discount availability for cash bookings.

We own at both Jambo and Kidani and I would be pretty upset if they decided to do away with the Jambo units. However, I'm not beneath a good bribe, I mean buyout, so anything is possible.

Couldn't you just imagine trying to get that many people to agree on ANYTHING! I can see DVD now... :rotfl2:

Those units are legally tied to DVC and owned by members. They could change around the points and designations but not the ownership itself. Now the rooms could go out of service permanently for a fire or similar issue and if that happens and the units were not restored, those members would cease to be a member of the club and would go away. Likely not an issue at WDW but certainly a possibility at VB or HH.

Possible if they bought back the interests or if they transferred them to Kidani Village. But that would reduce the size of the condominium and likely create some significant PR issues.

Also DVC was probably handed a portion of AKL as a pre-condition to doing a project tied to that resort. As Brian commented AKL was not hitting occupancy goals.

So the likelihood of Jambo reverting back to the hotel is pretty remote.

At BWV, they could revert to one preferred view category, not the split boardwalk and pool/garden because those were not in the contract. Same with OKW and the "near HH category". Not sure if they could eliminate the guaranteed savannah view at AKV, would need to see the contract wording.

So, if DVC chose, can dvc eliminate Concierge level service, but just keep the actual rooms?

Disney won't change anything unless there is a big benefit for them, money being the major reason.

I don't see how buying out existing owners at Jambo and converting the rooms back to regular hotel rooms could make them more money.

They really cannot change the different room categories at AKV because they are built into the point system itself (and even the maximum reallocation chart shows the categories remaining with different level of points).
