That is correct, but the OP is staying off site and asked if they could park for free at the theme parks with an AP.I may be wrong but....It's my understanding that parking is free at the theme parks for all guests staying in a Disney hotel. Just show the CM at the theme park your Disney hotel parking permit.

DVC members get the free valet parking at DVC resorts regardless of where they are staying.
You were misinformed.Once we were not staying on points and were told that we had to pay for valet parking at the DVC resorts. I'm not sure if this is true for everyone or just our experience.
The only thing you need to show the valet is your DVC member card.
They have no way of knowing if you are staying on points or even on property for that matter. I also believe the normal valets don't really care.
If you are staying on property, make sure you move your parking pass from the front window of your car or they may charge you.
You were misinformed.
The time we were charged for valet I hadn't realized it until we got our bill at check out. I went to the front desk of the resort we were staying at (BWI) and was told the same thing - free valet was only for members staying on points. (This was from the front desk manager) They took the charge off - but only because the CM returning the car to us didn't tell us it was being charged to our room.
