I'm heading to DL on 11/22 and 11/23 (thanksgiving and the day before). I know that WDW often stops letting people into the parks because it often hits capacity. I know the levels and all that what I need to know is if DL often closes bc of capacity. I am Trying to decide if park hopping is even an option or once I'm in a park I need to stay. Trying to figure out dining options.

Thanks.

I wouldn't say often ... but it does.

When we booked our PPH stay for New Years eve the Cast Member specifically mentioned the likelyhood of this happening and to be cautious about leaving or hopping to the other park.

I cant say for sure but New Year's Eve last year was so packed you could not move so I can see it happening easily then.

beware that the holidays WILL have days where capacity is reached and DL parks will not let guests in until other guests leave. If you park hop, you will risk the chance of one park being full when you return.

If you plan on hopping i recommend asking a cast member, primarily one at city hall or ticket booth, what they think you best option is.

I have been there where they closed the park sue to capacity and only the people who were already in could stay in the park for the rest of the day.

Tips:
Get there early
Eat meals in the park
plan accordingly

I've been wondering about this too -- we were at WDW at Christmas last year, and on Christmas Day, we were afraid to leave the park (to go elsewhere for dining, or back to our resort for a break) for fear of it closing and not being able to get back in. After our trip was over, I found out there were different levels of closure, and because we met all the requirements (had already been in the park that day, staying on site, multi-day package, etc.) we would have been fine with all but the very last/top-most closure and would have been fine to leave in all but the most dire case. Oh well!

We are going to DLR for Christmas this year (the week of) :santa: So my question is, does DLR have "levels" of closure as well? :confused3 Or is it an all or nothing kind of thing (it either is or isn't closed due to capacity)? We are pretty much rope drop to park closing kind of people (yep! crazy! :crazy2:) but just wondering in case we wanted to leave and come back for some reason.

Touring plans gives the day before and Thanksgiving day a 10/10.

Disneyland has 3 levels of closure. First they stop selling tickets. Second they stop allowing new people into the park (if you've already been in you can get back in). Third no one gets in until other guests leave.

Given the crowd levels this fall, I'd be really surprised if the parks didn't hit capacity during the holidays. New Years Eve, especially.

Also, if you are in the parks when they hit capacity, even once you're in, the crowds are really bad. The last time I was in the parks on a day that it was at capacity, the line for Pirates was over two hours long, and that was with all lines running, and CMs filling the boats (meaning that multiple groups were sitting in the same row to fill all the seats). And that was at the first level of capacity, where they've stopped selling tickets, but are still letting people in the gates.

Thanks Mel522! Like I said, we probably won't leave, but nice to know just in case! (Will they post signs or anything inside the parks to let you know in case you are considering leaving/returning?)

Where did you find this info? We are going Dec 28-31.

cmpeter posted a link to Touring Plans a few posts up. Go there and punch in the dates you are planning to be there and it will give you the info.
