Ways I *could* be getting pin codes (based on what info Disney has on me):
1.Stayed onsite at WDW, 2008
2. Stayed onsite at DLR last fall
3. Did the GAD service project
4. Subscriber to Family Fun magazine
5. Belong to Disney Movie Rewards
6. Disney VISA holder (this is new so I don't think I've gotten any PINs because of it)
I will say the frequency of "special info" emails, not all of which are PINs, increased after I booked to stay onsite last fall.

I just wanted to pop in and agree with this. When I stayed onsite at DLR - twice in 2007 and twice in 2008 - I was getting many more PIN offers (via e-mail and regular mail) around and in between those time frames. Last year, I lost count after a while of how many PIN codes I had received (and the irony was that last year was a bad financial year so I couldn't stay onsite). I think I may have received one or two PINs this year so far (probably because I did not stay onsite last year and they figure I lost interest in DLR hotel stays) - and I am not even positive that I got two - but it's not nearly as many as I got when I did back to back trips with onsite hotel stays. It seems like when my hotel stays decreased, so did the PIN codes!
I always say - since we don't know exactly from where Disney pulls the names for who will get PIN codes - it is better to just get on every mailing list that is Disney-related (
especially if it has to do Disney-related travel or with the theme parks). Sure, you may submit your name and info to a bunch of places and still get nothing for a long time - I assume the selection process is randomized, to a degree - but it's better to get
on mailing lists than to NOT get on them. Disney has to be able to know who you are to send anything to you, and they won't know who you are if you don't get on mailing lists, book at their hotels or buy things from them.
So just sign up for everything - sign up for the vacation DVDs for both DLR and WDW. Sign up to get info on
DCL. Create a "My
Disneyland" account on the DLR website and check yes for receiving any offers. Sign up for Adventures by Disney info. Sign up for info on that new Disney Resort that is going to open in Hawaii. Sign up for info on the Disney Vacation Club. Get an AP, if you can swing it, to get in that system. Subscribe to any Disney-produced magazines. Book a DLR hotel stay to get your name in the hotels' master system.
And be creative - think of companies that are owned by Disney and sign up with those too. I even signed up with my local news station (KABC-7) in Los Angeles because they are owned by Disney. WHo is your local affiliate that is owned by Disney? Sign up on their website for info.
Sign up on the Disney Family or Disney Living websites too.
Oh - also, take any and all surveys they offer you, whether it's on the DLR website or whether it's by mail, in person, over the phone, whatever. Disney has been known to hand over $100 in cash or $100 in gift cards for survey participation (not for all surveys, of course, but for certain ones), so it can't hurt to answer anything they want to ask you because you never know!!
