Does Disney monitor room key charges ?

I dont think they would hire and outside vendor to supply them with information that takes place in there resorts/park.
They can have one person simply enter the data base, set the search filters ( time period, DVC member, restaurant charges or theme park admission ) hit enter and compare it to the last weeks activity. Then print the results in graph form.
Then the disney employee reports to his supervisor spending has increased or decreased for a period of time in a specific area.

Then a decision is made to give us discounts. Disney success is not an accident. What other company uses bone structure imaging to ID a customer ( Annual passes ).

I think its good business, but I kinda like getting discounts so I try to be descrete with my spending habits. Make them work for for our dollars.

It is conceivable that if you never change any details, such as your name or phone number, always use your room key for every purchase and always use annual passes then you make it easier for them to collect data. If you are normal and don't do all of those each time then they don't have much info except in a general way.
Normal?? I like the convenience of using our room key for all sorts of purposes. It is something that we will continue to do. Yes, Disney has the capability of collecting data on us. But who really cares? I'm going back to WDW over the next 40 years time and time again. Will my habits change? No. If Disney wants this info, they can have it. Just like the grocery store when I use my preferred shopping card. Do you really think they are giving you those discounts for free?

**There are poll companies that can come up with much more supposedly "accurate" information than a disney inhouse department could do, at a much cheaper price. I'm sure disney uses polling data rather than a high cost department of data information, monitoring credit cards, and park entrance data bases.**
You are totally off base here. I am not familiar with the Disney IT, but I would easilly venture to say that they probably use AS400's running Oracle. Each piece of information entered in their thousands of data gathering devices goes into the database. What do you think is cheaper, hire a polling agency to get an idea, or use the computers they already own to mine the data they already have.

I renewed my parents AP one year as a Christmas present and the CM tried to convince me that it wasn't a good idea. She was able to tell me every use of my parents pass for the previous year and suggested a better alternative for the coming year based on previous use.
