Does Disney ever have discounts on the cruises

Hi, I have made my mind up . We want to take an Alaskan Cruise with Disney. Now we are DVC Members and I have a question. Does Disney ever have discounted Cruises or offerings? Thanks!

Sometimes they offer IGT OGT or VGT restricted rates. They assign your room and come out usually after the paid in full date. You have to pay in full as soon as you book. They also offer military and Florida resident rates.

I'm sorry what does IGT OGT and VGT stand for?

Inside, Oceanview, or Verandah guarantee.

You select the category and DCL assigns you a cabin in at least that category. You have no say in where the cabin is - and it is not refundable or changeable.

Thank you! So they never publish anything like 2nd passenger 1/2 price or anything like that?

DCL doesn't really need to. Small fleet + high demand = Not nearly as much need to "discount" as other lines (where often that "discount" is offset by an increase in the base price so it LOOKS like you are getting a deal).

I've heard from a couple of sources that opening day pricing is almost always going to be the best price you can get, even taking IGT, OGT, VGT, military and Florida residency into account.
One other tip for reducing price is to rebook on board. That's good for 10% off (unless you're doing concierge.)

We got something like 25% off our first cruise with a late booking in October. It was 2014.

GT (IGT, OGT, VGT) is a last-minute, discounted & restricted rate (absolutely no refunds or changes allowed), & is different from other types of guarantees (GTY) which are not restricted & also not discounted, fyi. What both types have in common is that you won't be able to select your exact stateroom, but they also leave open the remote possibility of getting an upgrade to a better cabin type.

Onboard you can book a placeholder for a few hundred dollars, and later apply that toward a deposit for a cruise on opening day when the new cruise itineraries come out, so you can get that 10% off onboard booking benefit. The combination of opening day pricing, 10% off, and a $100 or $200 onboard credit (based on length of sailing) is your best bet for a "discount" in most cases.

There are blackout dates (mostly around Christmas & New Years) for the application of onboard booking benefits, however. You also cannot apply the 10% onboard booking discount (OBB) toward a restricted GT rate (but you can apply it toward a nonrestricted GTY rate).

The second and subsequent cruises if done properly can be done at a 10% discount to include an on board credit.

To accomplish this. You need to do an on board booking while on a current Disney cruise. Stipulations apply and they have some black out dates.

We use Costco as our travel agent and we get a nice Costco cash card at the end of the cruise.

Hope this helps. We are proud owners of DVC as well.

Beat me by two minutes from my post. Good job.

Our upcoming cruise offered VGT what I can't figure out it was 1000$ More then our white wall verandah and $500 more then a family verandah room. Why would anyone pay that and not get to choose doesn't make sense.

As for discounts we once had $25 onboard credit and I've seen Canadians save 20-25% off etc, Florida residents get discounts, and I've seen the newer sailing like the magic had a discount when it first launched after its Reno

It is not always the case. We paid less than opening day prices 4x now booking VGT.
In fact we paid less for our VGT than the inside cabin was on that cruise on opening day.
We booked about 50-65 days out so not terribly last minute.
Edited to add: we had a placeholder and even with it applied every sailing we looked at (not even verandah but oceanview category 9) was quite a bit more than our VGT.
I believe that certain times of the year this isn't true such as summer and holidays, and maybe some one of a kind cruises like 2 stops at castaway cay etc.
Those sailings I believe only go up from opening day.

DCL will not offer (or hasn't in the past) discounts specifically to DVC members. However, they do offer special DVC-member-only cruises. These won't be discount priced but I have read reports from those who attend feel it worth the premium.

As others have stated, basically the only discounts DCL offers are FL resident (out of Port Canaveral), Canadian-resident (for some out of NYC), military, and the last-minute restricted fare bookings described above. And not on every cruise. These offers typically come out maybe 60 days ahead or closer to sailing, so within the PIF/cancellation period.

Enjoy your cruise!
