Does Disney care or know when you rent out points?

Read the sticky and from what I could tell, I think my question is in the right place?

Anyways, DH and I are talking about purchasing DVC since it's something I REALLY want to do. His biggest "hiccup" is of we want to do something else one year. He doesn't want to pay the annual dues to "just" bank the points. His thought process is why not save $x and pay for the room when we want to go? Anyways, does disney know or do they have a problem with members renting out their points? Does it take a long time to find people to rent? It would be great to have this flexibility, but I know disney can probably stop it at anytime.

Thanks for any help on this!

It is in the POS that owners can rent out their reservations. They simply can not do it for "commercial" purposes--there has been talk that the red flag gets raised when they see a member who has made around 20 reservations in a year under other's name.

In your case, if you are renting every so often, I would not worry about it from DVC standpoint. There are lots of ways to find a renter but you also have to understand all the ins/outs.

For me, I could not rent to a stranger because we are still responsible for them and to be honest, just don't want the hassle. Any damage they do, or if they fail to pay charges, your account is frozen until the owner gets the guest to take care of it. While this happens very infrequently, too much for me.

But, I have done a transfer to another owner--technically, not allowed to receive compensation--and that was nice and easy.

But, to be honest, once you are an owner, your DH may find that banking the points would allow you on the next visit to upgrade to a larger room or stay for an extended period, or just allow you to invite others with you. But you certainly have the flexibility to rent them out if you need them.

Thanks everyone! So even if we needed/wanted to rent out to one person back to back years, we should be ok right? I am not looking to rent to 20 different people in one year, two hopefully at most! I just think knowing that flexibility is there makes a big difference right now. I am familiar with David's rental and am looking to rent for our next trip to try a resort we want to buy at... Unless my DH let's me buy before then. Hehe :-)

You won't have any trouble at all. As the PP said, it's explicitly permitted in the POS.

Honestly, renting can be a plus for Disney. When I think of the number of posts I've seen here over the years from people who fell in love with the villas while renting and then bought DVC themselves, it's clear that renters are a pretty steady source of customers for DVC.

The Public Offering Statement also requires that you notify MS that you are renting the reservation and that you have a written contract. They may give you grief, but they need to be instructed that renting isn't against the rules unless you are commercial about it.
