since this is a once in a life time trip, i would love to video some of the shows. does disney allow this? do they allow tripods? i don't have a steady hand..... :hyper:

Yes to both, with some restrictions. I've used a tripod to video parades and shows such as Tarzan, MGM Stunt Show, Off Kilter, British Invasion etc. and that's allowed. There are some rides, ToT, R'n'Rollercoaster and others where video taping is forbidden/discouraged, but with a small camera and a little discretion it can be done. In addition I've taped POTC, BTMRR, SplMtn, Safari and others too numerous to mention.

Some unsolicited advice if this is truely once in a lifetime, capture some film but don't let it dominate the trip to the extent that all you actually remember later on is the act of filming. Experience the place.

thanks! i will try my best to remember to get out from behind the view finder. i'll be the mom with the video camera and camera as dh doesn't take photos or video (every time i hand him the camera, he drops it :scared1: yes there's a strap - don't go there :rolleyes1 ) nor can my kids be trusted. but i'm hoping 9 days will be enough to do both (experience/enjoy as well as film/photo). i'm SO ready to go :bounce:

1) Oh, my gosh, RIGHT!
2) I have seen so people miss WDW by looking through the view finder.
3) I heard one wife comment on the great ride.
4) The husband said he didn't remember it.
5) They looked at the digital screen and he says, "Yep, now I see it.".

Back in the day, when our kids were still with us, we used to haul along the video camera. Was a real pain and no one wanted to carry it let alone film anything. My solution, and one I still use today, is to take my camera to each park only once, we split parks during our stays, so an am MK trip and a camera, next trip a pm MK and a camera and then no more camera for the MK. Do the same at all parks and that way after being in each park I leave the camera in the room and just enjoy myself and the sights. Our stays are 8-12 nights and we get the favorite 3 parks taped and have alot of time to stroll unemcumbered around .

For some of the shows, they might ask that the tripod not be on the ground for safety reasons. We have taped a few of the shows with the tripod between my legs on the bench and they have turned out pretty good.

Doesn't Disney not allow tripods on main street to film the castle? I thought I've heard of people being mauled by Disney security for doing this, no?!

I don't think I would want to try and tape RnR or ToT, whether discretion is used or not. :rotfl2:

Before you start to tape something, make sure you know what to expect. Some of those rides are bumpy, so there is no need to give DH the camera, you can drop it instead. :rotfl2:

Just as a side note... :wizard: from someone who is frequently by a video taper, remember that others around you want to see the same show/character/parade. Too often I have to try to look around someone trying to "get a good shot" or shade my eyes from someone's camera light. Have a great trip :)

I don't understand why people film the inside of the rides. Most are too dark. The stuff you get out of it are shakey, washed out, etc. And like other people said, you don't get to enjoy the actual ride itself.

Unless you were me, doing It's a Small World for the 20th time last trip. DD2 did not want to ride anything else but that (she calls it "dolly ride"). DD6 did not want to ride anything else but Space Mountain. So, DW and I took turns. One of use would take DD6 to Space Mountain and the other one to It's a Small World. After couple trips down that insane ride, I started filming. First time through, left side. Second time through, right side. Third time through, the ceiling. I think some people probably thought I was insane. I was just trying to pass time :)

Do they sell DVDs of the rides?

I have a relatively inexpensive Sharp MiniDV recorder and using the 'Twilight' or 'Party' setting I've captured some good footage on R'n R, SplMtn, SpMtn and other dark rides. The camera has a setting to damp out some of the jerkiness, so I'm happy with the results. I've filmed through the pre-shows so I can give non-Disney friends a flavor of the rides.

Never had a problem with my tripod, but I was taken film and digital photos not video.
Most places where they don't want people using video is because it is dark and they don't want lights. Or in many cases you will not get anything worth watching anyway.
Video taping "It's tough to be a bug" would be a waste of time although I am sure someone tried it.
Sit at the end of an isle where you have a clear view of the stage and place the tripod inbetween your legs. Shoud not have any real problems.

Go to youtube and search various Disney rides, interesting what you can find on there.

Like one person said... don't become the person walking down the street video taping everything you see. Bring a still camera and take some photos and enjoy yourself. Save the taping for shows and your childrens interaction with characters and the like.
