Does decor make a difference in resort choice?

Just had to share another 80s story...the assistant coach of the opposing team showed up at DD's basketball game on Saturday wearing a long TEAL chunky knit sweater (Limted Express circa 1985), black leggings with long thick grey socks "scrunched" over top of them at the ankle, and tennis shoes (high top reboks, IIRC!). She's a really nice lady...and I thought to myself..."We could have been good friends in high school!"

After my last post a few minutes ago, I got to thinking...the thing I really liked about the SSR model was the colors and decor. It just "felt" better to me than the others.

I agree 100% with this. I too felt that the decor colours in the BCV somehow simply did not "go" as well as the muted tones in the SSR.

I suppose its what appeals to each as the SSR decor is very similar to my own tastes at home...so it feels like a home from home!

My DH says " its just a room " but I disagree. Its about facilities, location and the room. Whilst the BCV wins for the pool, the cost of points and the rooms take me back to SSR.

When choosing a WDW resort location is always my first priority, then amenitites and then decor and theming. I like the theming of all the Disney resorts so I enjoy all the various atmospheres no matter which resort I am in. I am much more picky about the location and convenience of the resort to the parks and restaurants and resort amenities then I am over the room decor and colors.

Yeah, well, I'm sure the furniture at SSR will be a higher quality than the rec room stuff I grew up with. Where I am from (time and place) that dark wood with those fluted legs (is that Colonial? French Country?) was popular when a lot of my friends parents were decorating the first time and by the time I was a teenager, it had been replaced and moved to the rec room. It isn't that my friends' parents were decorating their rec rooms with brand new Ethan Allen. The end table and bar chairs in particular look almost exactly like something I remember in one of my friends homes.

As I said, decor is highly emotional. At least for me, what I like is driven far more by my memories of "spaces like that/colors like that" than any rational definition of "good taste." (BTW, I think OKW and SSR - and all of the DVC resorts (with the possible exception of that shower curtain at BWVs) - are decorated in good taste - OKW is bright and appealing, SSR is classic in a way DVC had yet to implement classic - its just whether they appeal to a particular person or not.)

We've been happy at the theming of each DVC resort. We had stayed at WL, so we knew what "theme" to expect when we bought at WLV.

The only decor theme I cannot stand at any of the WDW resorts is at the Contemporary. More and more, I just get chills down my spine when I remembered DW and I actually chose to stay there for a few days.

Oh yes. VWL theme is just beautiful. I've taken my parenst to VWL and swung them by our hoem at BCV. Dad liked VWL and my Mom liked BCV. Why? Cause of theier different tastes in decor! If the DVC villas were not themed, just a nother plain ole' hotel I know we woudln't have bought. We coudl stay off propert for less. That is one of the top resoans we stay at WDW's resorts. We love the theming.

I love VWL because it reminds me of one of my favorite places besides WDW......Yellowstone NP and Old Faithful Inn.
My home is decorated lodge style, because I love it that much.
However, I really enjoy VWL stays more in winter, it seems so cozy even though it may be 70's or 80's in temp outside.
I also own at BWV, but mostly bought there for the location, I like the decor but don't love it. I think BCV is more my style. I also liked the decor at the SSR model.
I have a condo at Perdido Key florida that is decorated beach cottage style, so I get my fill of that when I'm there. I don't feel the need to be around palm trees and such at WDW, but I can understand why most people do...after all they are in Florida!
Decor was important, but probably not as much as the locations of the resorts we bought into.

Since Disney spends so much time planning the "themes" of the resorts - I think Decor has a lot to do with the appeal.

I also think that they have done a fine job with most of the resorts we have seen. Even the regular Disney hotels are themed, so I think it is one of the main things besides location that would attract people to the resort.

I love most of them. I find the Polynesian a bit dated, and I am not a fan of the Contemporary. As for the DVC resorts - I think they all are great in their own way. I am looking forward to enjoying them all at some point in my DVC membership.

When mom & I toured BWV & BCV, we liked BCV. We thought it had a personality that BWV didn't seem to have.

I agree that theme is the mainstay for DVC resorts and all Disney resorts, for that matter! It's interesting, since I have a folksy, antiquey, lodge thing going on at home, but I really prefer the pastel spaces of OKW for vacation! Maybe I just like it because it is different from anything we would find here in the frozen north!

When we go on vacation, we are escaping from our normal life. Although I appreciate the themes that are
familiar and like home (SSR, WLV), I don't want that on vacation. Usually we are escaping constant gray skys and snow and more snow. We want sunshine and warm airy spaces!! We bought BCV for both the location and theme (BWV would have worked too!) The specific hues, etc. aren't that critical.

I really want to stay at VWL next trip but I'm fighting this need for the sun!!

Put me in the "decor is important" column.
It is important that the decor match the theme, and Disney does a superb job of this with all of the resorts. It would be more than funny to see dark wood trim at BCV, or pastels at VWL.
My favorites are VWL and VB, but that is just personal preference.
