Does DCL ship merchandise?

A friend at work has asked me to purchase items for her onboard (coffee mugs and crystal). I'm worried about the items breaking in my suitcase. Can the stores on board ship the merchandise back to the states? Or should I politely decline?

I don't think that they can, and I've never had one of the ships' stores offer to do this. I think that you need to clear customs with your purchases, and DCL would actually have to take these purchases off the ship (and then into the US), and would have to have a separate customs form for every passenger who wanted to ship something home. I would guess the logistics would be quite a lot for the cruise line to have to deal with. As it is, they only have about 12 hours to turn the ship around at Port Canaveral.

However, you could probably arrange to do this on one of the port calls. I think there was a shipping place in the mall near where the ship docks at St. Thomas. Technically, you still have to claim this stuff at customs, there's a note on this on the US Customs Service website (link).

I always pack anything breakable I've bought in a carry-on.
