Does arrival time affect your room? Opinions please...

We have always arrived in the early afternon and gotten great rooms. This time we will only be arriving around 8pm. Will we be in the leftovers? (No room at Disney is that bad, I know) Just curious what people think.

I don't know if there are any hard and fast rules regarding this. I've had both experiences. Late arrival at CBR, not a great room, far from OPR (had requested a nearby bldg.), broken toilet (not that anyone knew). Another time at the Polynesian, paid for GV concierge, but nothing available so we got a LV room.

It honestly depends on the time of year you are going. During higher occupancy, more total rooms are occupied. So that means less of a selection. So arriving later in the day, can mean less of a choice. Now, some reservations are for different room types and guaranteed. In that case, the room is blocked for you so that other guess could have left at 6am and the room is just waiting.

What happen in hotels is the rooms are blocked a few days to a week out for the upcoming arrivals for that day. Paid upgraded rooms are matched first (ie you paid for a suite or bunk bed room, you are matched up with a departure from that day). However run of the house inventory rooms are blocked normally on location. This is due to housekeeping and making the turning of rooms more labor efficient. So if you have say 250 general rooms leaving that day with 260 arrivals (yes all hotels overbook on purpose), and you come in late in the day, you might be “stuck” with the least disa desirable room.

DH and I finally arrived at POFQ around 2:00am for our honeymoon (Aug 19-25 2007) and we were given a room in the building we had requested as well as a king bed. Perhaps we just lucked out, but we didnt have a problem even though we arrived VERY late!

We arrived at the Polynesian at 11:00 AM, and were assigned a room in Aeotaora (spelling?) but wanted Tahiti. I politely asked them, and got a room in Tahiti. We had to wait until 4:00 PM, but at least we got a room in the location we wanted!

The first 2 nights we are going, we will be staying at ASMo. I have requested a Toy Story room. I'm afraid that if I get a later flight, my chances of getting a Toy Story room will not happen - does anyone know the rules of this at ASMo??

rules are the same.. that is a run of house room, so general room blocks apply

when you check in, if there is a room open in that section you will get it. If occupancy is high you don't have a great chance.

That is a preferred location, but your chances are still as good as anybody elses.

Thanks for all of the imput. We are booked at POFQ and I am thinking of requesting in Section 6. Anyone else like to share their thoughts?

There is not a bad spot at POFQ.

We were there in August 07' and had room 5303 (building 5). WE loved the location so much we will ask for it again. It was about a 2 minute walk to the pool and the food court and about 4 minutes to the boat dock or buses.
