In the back of a Ford Expedition with the 3rd seat down? We are trying to determine how many vehicles we have to take to the port. Less is better obviously :)

i have a lincoln navigator--i believe it's space is smiliar--with 3rd row down we fit 5 large suitcases, a stoller (not umbrella), and a golf club luggage type bag (with a portable playpen in it). no problem.

Then I am thinking 2 smaller suitcases would fit in the space of the stroller and the portable crib? Thanks for your help!

Since they are the same car, it would be identical. Folding the seat would make all the difference, otherwise it's pretty tight.

The web sites of most car manuf. give luggage capacity for their vehicles. I know because we were forced to figure this out for our last cruise. We spent about 30 minutes figuring out how to get all the luggage in also but we saved quite a bit of money by not renting a mini van.

5 large suitcases, 1 garment bag and 4 carryons in my 04 Expedition.....

I also have an Expedition, and we had 9 bags (5 were large suitcases) and a rolling cooler. It all fit and we probably could have put more if we needed to. Our seat does fold down completely flat though. I think all of the newer ones do now on the Expedition, but I know our old expedition had the type of seat that just folded but not flat. Does that make sense?:rotfl: Expeditions are great for hauling stuff, but you sure have to take out a loan to fill them up with gas.;)

I can imagine what you mean about the gas, luckily for me if is my son's so he will pay for gas and we will pay for parking! It will probably come out where we are getting a deal!:cloud9:

He told me all our stuff would fit but I was concerned. Now I know I don't have to be. 5 people, 5 large suitcases and 3 carryons, we should be set!

An Expedition is an economy car compared to my Suburban. 454 V8. I've had it 20 years, check mileage every tankful, best gas mileage ever was 12.7 coming DOWN the Grapevine from the Los Angeles area.
Put $80 worth of gas in it today....$3.13 a gallon, thank goodness I still have a quarter of a tank in it!!! Of course, it is our weekend/vacation car, so this is the first time I've put gas in it since February 15th.

OMG! I guess I shouldn't complain about my 16 mph, huh?;) My DH would faint if I could go as long as you have without putting gas in my vehicle! He would be a happy, happy man!:rotfl:

Of course, I am putting $33 a week (one tank) now of gas in my Ford Focus!!!

we have a Ford Expedition and with the 3rd row seat folded flat, we can very comfortably fit 4 large suitcases!

In a similar vein....we are driving down to Key West from Fort Lauderdale with 7 people (all adults) and I have rented a ford excursion. I know the rental website it will hold 8 adults but the does the last row of seats fold down full or split. I told everyone to pack light as I really don't want to have to rent two vehicles but now I am getting worried. Most of us will have duffle type bags.

Is there an extended version and a regular version of the ford excursion currently or are they all the same?

My other option is the 12 passengers vans but they are much, much more for a 7 day rental.

We bought one of those luggage things to put on top of our Navigator. We found it at a yard sale for $10. You can get hard shell ones - or now they even sell them out of material (like they make tents out of). Our is the tent kind.

The Excursion is the huge Ford SUV that they stopped making in 2006, doubt any of the rental fleets still have any since they rotate out their cars every 9 months or so.
The Expedition is the shorter full sized Ford SUV, however, when they stopped making the Excursion, they started making an extended model of the Expedition which would have more room behind the third seat like the Excursion did. However, I don't know if any rental car companies carry the extended version of the Excursion.

Thanks...I did mean the Expedition....

The description on the Budget site has: FORD EXPEDITION 4WD 4DR/8PSG- FULL SIZE SUV

No way to tell from that if it is a short or long version. They put bucket seats in the front now so they all are 8 passengers. My Suburban has a bench up front, and 2 back bench seats, so it seats and has seatbelts for 9. My previous Suburban had a bench up front, and one back seat, it sat 6.
