Does anyone wear a slip anymore?

I hate slips for anything but sheer dressy dresses, but I compensate for that by always choosing skirts that are either lined or of a heavy enough fabric that sunlight won't render them sheer.

I do OWN slips, however. A full and a half in both beige and black, just in case.

I'm starting to wonder... do these women not realize we can see their underwear, or is that the point? Just like a colorful bra strap?

I assume it is, but I got bawled out royally for saying so once here. If you KNOW that people can see through your dress whenever the light shines through, and you don't choose to try to change it, IMO it's your intention.

I've noticed that when walking down the street on a bright sunny day, you can tell if a woman is wearing granny panties, a thong or nothing at all under their skirt/dress. :scared1:

I've got to get out more in the daytime...

20 years later and I still can't figure it out. I go around the corner and there she is working at her desk and her blouse is open...and she is not wearing a bra.

How could she not notice.

Not only do I wear them, I am wearing a split slip right now. I find it is much cooler in the warmer months to wear split slips under lighter skirts and dresses.

But I won't wear pantyhose.

When I wear my denim skirt, no, but when I wear my dresses or other kinda dressy dresses, I do. I own 2 half-slips. On a side note, does anyone remember when we were kids (late 60s probably) the panties that were attached to a half-slip, or is that all in my imagination? :rotfl: I'm pretty sure I had a white one and a salmon-colored one.

A lot of teen girls wear the thin white shorts and no undies or thongs--not a good look, especially if you have dark hair and bend over :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I recently bought DD16 a pair of white shorts. When she tried them on I told her, no bright colored undies or thongs. She had to agree before I bought them. I would be mortified if her or DD18 went out with underwear showing.

I am constantly on them about their bra straps showing. I have bought them multiple strapless and clear strap bras. I also bought them the straps that can be rearranged depending on how the shirt is worn (halter, racing back, etc).

My dresses have liners so I don't wear slips with them.

Okay, you're talking about a silhouette. I'm talking about being able to see someone in ANY light and say "Oh, look, you're wearing yellow underwear."

Good clarification because my mother used to go crazy if she could see my silhouette and I just could not understand it. NO I do not like to see underwear BUT if the dress is that sheer I would not wear it.

I'm 40 and still do. The slip helps the skirt or dress from clinging/sticking to me and it acts as an extra barrier for my undergarments so whatever color I'm wearing doesn't show through.

I am 47 and own two slips. I haven't worn them in years because:

1. I can hardly even purchase a dress or skirt anymore that isn't halfway up my thigh, so hardly wear them anymore.

2. When I do purchase them, they are usually heavy enough that I no longer need a slip.

I have two, longish white linen skirts. Even though they are lined, the lining is sort of skimpy so I put my long white slip under them.

I have a long, "woolish" black skirt that can be itchy, even with it's own lining so I put a slip under that.

Other than that, I no longer need one.

I do wear pantyhose whever I wear a suit or something "conservative" or formal business wear. Today I have a flouncy pink/beige skirt on with no hose and sandals. No slip either as it is nicely lined.

For the person who said that women now wear Spanx--well, I find Spanx horrible uncomfortable and binding. Pantyhose are way more comfy to me.

These days if a slip is needed most women wear SPANX.

"Most?" Maybe most of the women you know. I know a lot of women who wear Spanx separates, but not the slips. Honestly, I don't see how something that fits so snugly could even be an effective slip. Doesn't it ride up?

Spanx is a good product. Much superior to the other brands of foundations; however, I personally find them uncomfortable. I would rather wear my Hanes Silk Reflections--the panty portion is very comfortable to me. I have worn a Spanx shaper once when I wore a skin tight, form fitting clingy dress. It works but I felt trussed up all night.

As for the slips, I never tried their brand because I find a regular slip more comfy. If you have something really, really tight AND sheer, I suppose a Spanx slip would be the way to go.

That's it - I don't consider a silhouette any issue at all. It's just my shape, not details!

Now with many of my dresses, since they're light cotton, I know I can't wear black, white or coloured undies. Because those will definitely show through. I figure that's what nude/beige undies are for - they match my skin! If I look at myself in the mirror, pull the dress tight, and I don't see my undies through the fabric, I'm happy.

I don't care if you can see my legs when you're walking behind me on the street. It's not like you can see any personal details, so no biggie.

I don't wear slips because I find them hot and uncomfortable.
