Does anyone use their points for Fri and Sat. stays?

We like to stay 9 nights, Friday Night through the following Sunday so we use both weekends nights at the beginning and at the end, this way the kids only have to take 5 days off of school and we get a 9 night vacation.

We always fly out sunday as around here cheaper fares are Sunday to Sunday. Then we do Sunday through Thursday at DVC. and a Friday and Saturday, at a resort, we try to let each child pick a resort of choice, From a selected list of course. It would never be worth it to me to spend the double point value on the weekend. I look at as if I had the points to spare, I would rather take another trip later in the year. Economically it makes more sense to me to do the hotel route, For Instance my 2 bedroom villa at Boardwalk In December would be 102. points for 2 nights Friday december 12th and Saturday December 13th. That translates to 1,020 dollars. The worth of those points that is....To book a deluxe 2 rooms x's 2 nights each is costing me less than 700 for a deluxe. saving me 520 dollars and getting another trip in........

Wow, great posts everyone! Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know what we'll end up doing on a consistent basis, as we own 200 points. I'd like to think we'll spend our entire time at our resort. Moving around once we're there, just doesn't sound appealing enough to me.

Thanks again!

Deb

We bought the points to use. To spend cash to avoid weekends defeats the purpose for buying in to DVC for us. We pick the time we want to go and if it includes the weekend (as it usually does) we use the points. Even when we go for a five night stay it usually includes a weekend. We have yet to feel that we didn't get our money's worth. :)

So far, we haven't used our points for any weekend nights. We have 200 points, and we figured out that we could go for 3 weeks a year if we spent the weekend nights elsewhere. That's what we're doing this year at least. I managed to Priceline the Swan for $59/night for Fri. and Sat. night of our upcoming trip. We are open to staying at any Disney deluxe or Universal resort that has a good rate for the 2 weekend nights that we need on any given trip :) We actually like hotel-hopping, so this works out well for us :)

You know, this got me thinking. I have 210 points and have scheduled a trip (at OKW)for August, 6 nights, checking in on a Thursday.Would it be better to book in another resort for the first couple of nights? I am open to suggestions!

We have 300 points we use them weekdays weekends we don't move off site. In nov we will be staying at the VWL sat and sun and then on to BWV till the fowoling sunday when we go home:smooth:

We have always stayed through the weekends. Last year we stayed over 2 weekends, beginning and ending with weekend days.
My fault, I was dragging my feet waiting for a nice low airfare. Guess what? They just got higher! LOL!

We usually travel with our family, including young grandchildren, so it is much more convenient to stay at the resort and not have to move.

Can't wait to go again!

I couldn't imagine not using my points whenever I wanted!

We are retired so are not restricted as to when we can go. Therefore, we avoid the weekends and have gone on an average of about 3 times a year with our children(5) and grandchildren(12). Since our children are restricted to time of year(school) and length of stay(time off from work), weekdays seem to work out the best for us.

Yes, we always stay on the weekends. I do not like to move during my vacation. I get there, plop down the bags, and relax. That's why I bought DVC in the first place!

We have always used points for our weekends...with the exception of HH.
This next trip to BWV, we may be skipping out on the weekend, but just by chance. We're going Sunday through Sunday, and are planning on staying at AKL the last 2 nights, which just so happens to be the only weekend nights of our trip.
We're on a mission to stay in every resort, and after our one night at the Contemporary last Sept., we decided we needed at least 2 to get a real feel for each resort.

My DW and I just bought last year. We decided on our purchase after 3 years. We purchased at BCV'S because we like the resort, we do not want to move because a Fri or Sat costs us more points. Even if we have ( gasp ) 2 weekends during our trip. Just our opinion, but I can not see moving away from our home resort.

We book the nights we want to stay, regardless if they are weekends or weekdays. If we are running short on points because of weekends, then it is time for an add-on!

We stay at DVC, but we move and downsize. For example, this year we'll start in a 2BR at BCV. During the weekend, we're moving to a 1BR at OKW. Then we'll finish off with 4 nights at the AKL Concierge, all on points.

We do this for a couple reasons. We own at BWV and want to spend time at several of the WDW accomodations because we really enjoy all the theming at each location. We also figured that as a family of 4, it wouldn't be a bother as far as room was concerned (I'm staying in the master bedroom anyway :) ).

We'll probably start to feel a little cramped at AKL, but that's one of the reasons, along with the special AK tour available only to Concierge guests, I went with the concierge level. We can always use the lounge if we need more space.

We have never saved points, but then again we have bought two additional contracts since our original purchase. We just want to stay and have fun, not count points and pennies. Vacations are very important to us (only for the last few years) and we save for them and budget for them so we can have a good time.
