Hiya - just wondering if anyone actually uses the full luggage allowance for travel

If I read correctly, with Virgin we can take
2 x 23kg hold baggage + 1 small carry on EACH!!!

For the 4 of us that's up to 8 x 23kg hold baggage + 4 small carry on..... wow! We could fit the WHOLE contents of the house in there!:lmao:Mind you, we would need a truck to get it there.....:rotfl:

We often use the full allowance on the way back. There is only 2 of us and we usually take fold away bags in our case. In Jan we only just made the limit!:scared1:

We don't use it going out,but deffinatley come very close to using it all when we come back. There will be 4 of us next year when we go and were going to take 3 large cases(with a bit of everything in each)and we always pack small holdals inside because of bringing back any breakables. Also i never bring back all the toiletries they get left behind to make even more room  .x.

coming home my case's weighed 21kg and 8kg. That was for both me and my dd so we nowhere near used the luggage allowance for two people. As it is just me and a child, the last thing I need is to be loaded down with luggage.

Whenever I have flown with Virgin I have always half packed a small case which then fits inside a larger one.

That way I have got plenty of room for my purchases on my return ;)

I must have mis understood about Virgin as I read it as being each passenger can have 23kg which can be made up with 2 bags. Allowances can be put together but no case can weigh more than 23kg (which is why they allow you 2 cases each.)

Snap.
I take little (Ok well as much as I can but leave space) and bring back LOADS:rotfl:

We definitely do use it on the way home, we take 3 cases for 3 of us and we have to sit on them to close them:rotfl2: , the shopping purchases just have to be done:rotfl:

we were no where near on the way out but on the way back i literally had to force the cases closed but when weighed i probably could still have another case worth!! this yr we wont get anywhere near as we have purchased ds2 a seat rather than him having to travel on our laps which mean he now gets a full luggage allowance! dont think dh's bank balance could handle that much shopping!

Each passenger can have two cases weighing 23kg (32kg in PE). I don't think you can pool the allowance.

on the way home...YES !!

And there 6 x baggage allowance for us big familys of 6 ...lol:rotfl:

Last year we had to buy 2 extra bags out there!
and i often pack my smaller suitcase in the bigger one to have room to bring it all back!

Yes!!! We do as others have said a case in a case on the way there. On the way back we fly PE ( larger baggage allowance :thumbsup2 )
There are 5 of us so a lot of luggage.:scared1:

We're never anywhere close to Virgin's huge allowance, but we have been perilously close to First Choice charter flight's 21kg (or maybe 23kg?) allowance ;)

Nowhere near for us. 3 of allowed 138kg. After 25 nights last August we had about 78kg incl hand luggage.

Never even managed to get close - despite the fact that we all travel out with a suitcase-inside-a-suitcase and fill those spare cases with goodies galore... :goodvibes

be carfeul cos we flew with them on 4th feb to florida and we only have one case between use and would have been charged! we were only going for 1 week so didnt feel the need to take 2 cases each but because we only had one between us we were told to buy another one so we had one each on way back cos they will charge us.

When we have flown before it didnt matter if we merged them but now it seems they are stricter with it

We always take minimal out, and then fill em up over there. last year was our best we flew BA, and you could still take 32 x2 each, but as a diver i could take an aditional case of 23 within my free allowance !!! and with 2 bags to carry on, the poor old Megane did complain a bit leaving Gatwick.

going out is not a problem, but have always used our full allowance coming home for 3 of us

This is a major worry of mine at present! :confused3

We're flying with First Choice (two of us), so I'm thinking it'll be around 23kg each. We're not planning on taking much out, but I know I'll be damn sure close (if not over :rotfl: ) on my way back! This does worry me somewhat. I did ask to pay for extra baggage allowance, but was declined, saying that the airline does not offer it and we would be charged accordingly on the way home :scared1:

Suppose I'll have to curb the mechandise! :sad2:

Oops.

There are just two of us and going out is fine, but last year on the way back, we had bought an extra bag each and we were over the 2x23Kg limit and had to pay up at DTD.

We had stayed for three weeks though.
