Does anyone use cash anymore?

Went shopping this weekend and the cashier at the clothing store told me I was the first one that day to pay with actual money. It was 4 pm and the store had been open since 10a.m. :confused3

Doesn't anyone use cash to pay for things anymore? I don't have one of those check cards either. Just cash, moolah, dollah bills for me please.

How do you pay for things?

.

I use a debit card for mostly everything except for purchases under $5. When I go out shopping I drop some money. I do all my shopping on the weekend. So, it would be $125 at the grocery store, $75 at Target and so on. I feel really "insecure" carrying that much cash around. I guess I probably worry too much about theft.

I rarely use cash. I put almost everything on my Discover card--1% cash back.

We generally write checks. We don't have a check card either. We do have an ATM card and we use that to get cash for going out to dinner or something like that where they don't take checks. We rarely use our credit cards for everyday items either. Mainly just for large items.

I rarely use cash either -- only for small purchases. Everything else goes on our credit card. It's just more convenient. :)

I never have any cash. I went to a kids' basketball game last week, and I was surprised with a $2 entry fee. I had to borrow the money from a friend, or I would have had to go to the bank teller. When I do have cash, it stays in my wallet forever. I usually use my debit card.

It is funny that this post just came up. On Friday I went to lunch with 10 people from work. 9 of us used our debit card or a credit card. Only 1 person paid with cash and we all commented on it. I never carry cash anymore. It is so much easier, for me, to use the debit card.

I also rarely use cash. I pay for my groceries with my ATM card, and use a charge card for everything else. (I pay the full balance off every month) I hate carrying around a lot of cash or my checkbook.

I never have any more than $20 in my wallet. Between work and day to day things (excluding bills) we spend at least $1000 a week. Not a safe amount of cash to carry around. I loathe checks also. I only write them for payroll. I pay all our bill online.

Cash or check. I don't have a debit card. When my ATM card messed up and I went to the credit union to get another one they tried to give me a debit card! I had to politely decline and insist on just a plain old ATM card. I'm not responsible enough to own a debit card.

I use my debit card for most stuff now, although it's getting to be a real pain since every store now wants a pin number, so I have to play with buttons to use it as credit so I don't have to pay the fee for using my pin. I do still use cash occasionally, but only for small purchases ($3 for pizza the a couple weeks ago, $2 for a movie at school, etc). The debit card is just more convenient.

I was honestly thinking a few days ago, there may be a day where money does not need to be minted. We are almost there now, direct deposit, debit cards, online banking.....heck, even the casinos use printed vouchers. now..instead of putting money in the slot machine, you can put in a printed voucher.

I'll admit to being a cash nut. I pull out a bunch of cash at the beginning of the week and use it for most things I buy. Not sure why - it just feels "real" to me.

I typically only use cash for fast food purchases and things less than about $5. I always keep a little bit on me for the times that the kids want to go to a movie with friends or something like that.

Beyond that, I put everything on either Discover or my Disney Visa (1% back on each of them) and pay the balance each month. I've cut way back on my check writing too. Now I only use the checks for bi-weekly offering at church and those bills that don't take on line payments.

ETA that I worked part time in a department store back in the early 90s, and even then, we very seldom got cash. I know many times when I cashed out the register, it was the same $50 that we started the day with. I think the most cash I ever turned in was about $200 over the "bank".

I use my debit card for pretty much everything larger than $10. I carry about $20 in cash for smaller purchases. I can't remember the last time I wrote a check for something other than a gift inserted into a card!

Debit and online bill pay here. I hardly write checks for bills anymore, and I only have $20 a week in cash on me for small purchases (like a soup or salad to go with my Lean Cusine for lunch at work).

The few occasions I do use cash for larger purchases, it doesn't seem "real" to me that I'm spending money!

I do wonder what would happen if the bank computer system has a nationwide (or even regional) shut-down. We'd all go nuts! I'd actually have to drive to my bank and get money out! :faint: My mother used to go to the bank once a week to get cash out for groceries, gas, etc. I go maybe once every two months, if that!

I write maybe 10 or so checks a year, everything is either debit card or Quicken. Seldom use cash.

My husband only uses CA$H. I, on the other hand, only use my Universal credit card (for the points/benefits). I write a check for school tuition. Cash has a tendency to disappear before ya know it. I like a paper trail. It helps me keep track of spending. (Which I don't do. Just living expenses right now. I want to pay for our WDW trip BEFORE we go.)
