I was on another board and saw a few people talking about using this adhesive tape gun. The most popular model seems to be the 714 which uses a 1/4" width tape.
The gun is kind of big - can hold tape cartridges that are 36 (and 60) yards in length. The gun itself is rather costly - retails around $50 - I found a site where I can get it for $40 with shipping though. And the tape refills (must be sure to get the right formula - #908 is acid free) are less than $3 for a 36 YARD roll.
Apparently this is most often used by framers for securing mats and photos but is starting to become popular with scrappers.

Has anyone here used it and would you recommend it. I'm about ready to order it as I've gone through 3 adhesive cartridges already this weekend! It wouldn't take long to make-up the cost of the initial expense of the gun but I'm worried that I'd hate it, lol.

I just got one! I got the red one, on Tuesday, and I used it on my swap stuff and for pages for my DSIL's album. I went a little hog wild with it, and have used one roll of tape already, so I am cutting back how many sides I apply it to for the second roll. :)

So far it's been easy to load and reload. Easy to apply, and it's not as supersticky as I had been thinking it was. Which means you can move stuff around for a very short period if you haven't solidly, pushed down on stuff. I've been using it on Bazzil paper, which can be problematic with other adhesives.

So, so far so good, but I don't know how long things will hold up, but I figure the twopeas people have been using it for a lot longer and things are okay.

I got it from the framingsupplies website, so it was $55 for the gun, 5 rolls of tape and shipping.

I use one of these daily at the framing store and have thought about buying one often....they are big and a bit bulky but are really easy to use. I would be sure to get the a/f tape refills. We clean our guns every six months or so with a adhesive cleaner.....

I just 3M would get with the program and make a smaller version...:)

Thank you both. I'm ordering it! And Hope, that was the same website I found the best price on too. :)

I've used one at work for years and for scrapping for about 6 months. I thought it might be too heavy, but I got used to it.

The trick to saving money is - if you only put your old adhesive or photo mounts in the corners, that's all you need to do with this too. The temptation, because it is so easy, is to run the tape down all four sides. Well, it's not necessary, and is really wasteful!
