Does anyone think YC looks like 'average' hotels?

We decided to stay at the YC, but FI brought up the point that the lobby and rooms look a lot like every other hotel.. not so much the theme, but in colors and the overall classic decore.

Opinions?

Have "visited" and eaten there a few times. Had friends and family there. Don't know that they would go back.

It is a beautiful hotel, but certainly not creative. Could be located anywhere. I think the biggest draw is the location and the themed pool.

My family prefers the Disney creativity throughout the hotel, and having stayed at WL and AKL, could never visualize a stay there.

Just our opinion.

I thought the same thing before we stayed there.

I was pleasantly surprised by the decor. My children both loved the big globe in the lobby. It felt like we were at a seaside resort when we were there.

Our room was in PERFECT concdition and had lots of nautical theming. We did stay on the concierge floor but I'm sure all of the other floors are similar.

Also, the porch outside with rockers and the grounds are absolutely beautiful.

The theming may be a bit "plain" but it is a great resort. I loved and can't wait till I can afford to go back

I keep questioning our decision to stay here for that exact reason. We loved the Poly --- and seriously considered staying at AKl for our August trip because the resort itself seemed a destination. SAB seems great but we visit waterparks regularly and I think we are going to be disappointed if this is the main draw. YC seems like a pretty hotel -- but definitely one you can find anywhere. It's selling point really seems to be location, I hope our family won't be disappointed.

The BC is obviously the same hotel with different colors, interior design, and furniture; but you're right about similarities between resorts in the same category. The Coronado Springs, Carribbean Beach, and Riverside could all be the same hotel if you're standing in the lobby.

On my first trip toWDW in 1996 I had wanted to visit every resort except the Yacht and Beach Club. Not being a fan of "Cape Cod" style architecture I found it a bit bland looking in photos. 2/3 of the way through the trip after visiting almost every resort (including the Swan and Dolphin) we had a bit of time so I drove over and parked at the Beach Club. We were impressed as we walked up to it. Walking out the back side and seeing the almost completed Boardwalk across the way and Stormalong Bay we were quite awestruck. When we got over to the Yacht Club I really liked it. When we went inside I just new I had to stay there. I felt the lobby had a more upscale feel which was nice. I stayed there on the following trip!!! :)

I see what you're saying, but coming from the South - it feels themed to me. The theme being Nantucket - which I'm sure isn't accurate but at least it makes me feel that way. I think the "themed" details like the seahorse lights at the Beach Club, the globe in the lobby of the Yacht Club are quite subtle compared to the Hawaiin theming at the Poly or the big icons of the value resorts.

So my answer is - I think the theming is more subtle, but certainly not to the point of "could be any hotel." I also agree that the main draw is the location and Stormalong Bay.

I love the YC/BC when we went. I prefered the BC though as I thought the decor was nicer (the YC seemed a little too formal for me). I love the location of the BC, love SaB and can't wait to stay there again (we actually stayed at the Beach Club Villas) as I loved it.

Personally I don't think really is anything *average* about the Yacht Club but I'm bias because I love it there. Now we stay at the Beach Cub villas because we bought DVC but even when I'm at the BCV I missed the YC. We had the most beautiful view from our room when we were there and a huge balcony and the wood floors in the lobby are gorgeous! Aww I miss that view.

I'm sure you'll end up loving where ever it is you decide to stay!

We sure don't think it's average. We've visited or stayed in all the deluxe resorts, and it's our favorite place.

I wasn't too sure about the Yacht Club before my first stay there, but it really won me over. I was afraid that it would seem a bit boring decor-wise compared to the BoardWalk Inn (where I had stayed prior to the YC), but I didn't find that to be the case at all. We loved the new room decor with the nautical theming, and we enjoyed the upscale feel of the resort. Plus, we liked the thoughtful little touches in the room like the chair with ottoman and the little table on wheels that pulls out from under the desk. I then stayed at the Beach Club on a different trip, but I really preferred the Yacht Club. It doesn't seem like "just any hotel" to me, but I definitely agree that the theming is more subtle than at the Animal Kingdom Lodge or the Wilderness Lodge.

Oh no way! There is nothing average about the YC... it's one of the best hotels at WDW. ;) I think it has a great theme. ::yes::

I've never stayed there but I've seen pics of the rooms and I've visted a few times and I wasn't overly impressed...I think the biggest draw there is SAB and that's what draws a lot of families with children there...

After seeing YC & BC we decided we would not reallly want to stay there because its too much like home. We live on Cape Cod, and many of our hotels here look very much the same. They don't go in for too many frills on Cape Cod & the Islands.... the decor is usually casual, and simple. I'm sure many individuals would consider it to be very plain indeed, but it is a way of life in this neck of the woods. I think Disney actually did a pretty good job when they tried to capture the feeling of a seaside community.:)

This is exactly what I felt when we stayed at Y/BC. I know some people love it there, but I wouldn't want to stay there again, especially for what we paid. Maybe I'm ignorant about the "Nantucket" theme,LOL. I really didn't see it as a beautiful resort, but I have no complaints. There was no sense of Disney there, and it really was like other non-Disney hotels we've stayed at. These aren't complaints, just my opinion. We did have a lovely vacation when we were there. Except for SAB being SO crowded! Uh oh, I won't go there! LOL

We toured resorts this past Christmas for fun(did not do ANY parks...:( ) and DH said YC was his least favorite upon first impressions. He does travel fairly often for work, and he said the lobby /thememg reminded him of a more business type feel...he agreed it was very tastefully done, but just did not get a vacation feel from it. We tend to associate the tropics w/vacations tho, I guess we need to be moreopen minded!:p

It is my absolute favorite resort so I am going to have to say no on it being plain.

Plain would be the Holiday Inn. The whole Epcot resort area is phenomenal!!

We stayed there in 2002 and wouldn't stay there again. The location is great but we also felt that the decor inside was nothing spectacular, the CM's bordered on "rude" and unless you got to the pool area when it opened you might as well forget about getting a chair. For as expensive as it was we were not impressed. Believe it or not my kids liked "Dixie Landings" better.
