I made a lot of those! Just take two pieces of fleece cut so that one is about 3-4 inches smaller than the other. Lay the smaller one on top of the larger one and cut an even number of strips along each side of the larger one. Then cut slits in the smaller one to correspond to each two strips in the longer one and slip one strip through the slit and knot it to the first strip. Repeat this for all the strips on all sides.

Or... I just made one a little different and it seemed easier. Make sure each piece of fleece is the same size or as close as possible. Put one piece on top of the other and match up evenly. Cut strips on BOTH pieces of fleece and tie the top to the bottom with the strips. I was able to bunch up the fleece and sit on the couch while tying it together instead of spreading it out on the floor or on a table. A lot easier on my back.

Serena, did you read Binnys sale post abuot Joann Fabrics? Most their fleece will be on sale for $2.49 a yard on Black Friday from 6-9am! I usually pay at least $5 a yard. I know where I'm going to be 5:30am next Friday!

Thank you for asking about this Serena! I've been trying to find something for my grandpa for Christmas and if I can find the right patterns/solids of Fleece, this will be perfect! I'd completely forgotten about it.

Hey guys this looks cute. I am a non craft person, but I read through the other thread and see that many of you have done this, which is slightly reassuring. I am wondering how much fleece should I buy if I want to make a comfy size adult blanket?

Ah yes, the wonderful no-sew blankets! I made one for my Mom last Christmas and she absolutely loves it!

I did have a diagram on page 6 of last year's thread for anyone interested in following the original pattern, but I too ended up following the same method that Lucky4me described on this thread. Even simpler! Worked great too, plus you get two-colored pieces on the sides.

The blanket I made was out of fleece 1.5 meters by 2 meters (less a little to make them exactly the same size and cut off edges). It's a really good sized blanket. You wouldn't need to make it that big, but to have it cover you right to your toes without being curled up, it's really nice. (1 yard = 0.9144 meter ... so meters and yards are pretty close, though we measure in meters in Canada instead of yards)

How much is everyone paying for fleece, and just how good is the cheap stuff you're getting? I paid a LOT for my fleece but it's really nice stuff. I can't find anything even nearly close to the $2.49/yard price, even with the Canadian conversion rate.

You could use left over fleece you may have to make a pillow in the same manner.....obviously, you tie all 4 sides though...LOL


Just a thought.


Now...has anyone seen the patterns for the beach blanket that folds up into a beach bag???

Now that's a cool idea!

Go get a square pillow, make a case that would match the blanket, tie up 3 of the 4 sides, stuff the pillow into the resulting pocket, then tie up the 4th side around the pillow. Great idea!! That or make a pocket in the back of the pillow so you could remove the pillow itself.

My nieces were just talking last weekend about needing some blankets and this is the first thing I thought of.

I made 4 last Christmas. Don't know if I'll go into production again this year or not. I'm contemplating that sale on Black Friday.

I did my throws in 2 different sizes. I made one longer for my tall, teenage son. The others I made shorter. I just figured that the width of the fleece was how wide the throw would end up (minus the fringe on both sides). Then I bought the length of fabric that I wanted (remembering to consider the fringe on both ends). I cut the contrasting fabric smaller (by the width of the fringe all around) and tied them the way the thread described.

If anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to try to help them understand. It really is pretty easy. My DD (ten last winter) helped me make them. She wants to make them together again. She sleeps with her Mickey one every night, by the way. It is time consuming and hard on your back if you make it on the floor. Someone said last year that they made theirs on the bed - just moving around the bed to cut and tie. That might be easier.

I just finished my first one last night and I used the bed. It took me about 4 hours, but my back was indeed killing me by the time I finished. I had to bunch it up and take it into the living room to sit back on the couch in order to finish tying it, but I figured once I had half the ties in place and the rest pinned down, it was probably safe to move. It did end up bunching up along one side, so you may not want to do that (bunch it up on your lap to tie, that is)

I love the pillow idea! Thanks to whoever thought of it!

I have 6 blankets on my list this year and have requests for many more than that. They are easy but time consuming. I've found with my tie together method that pinning all around with safety pins keeps it together nicely. Then you can sit on the couch or a chair. My back really can't take it on the table or my knees can't take it on the bed.

As long as I cut out the four corners before I pinned it, I didn't get any bunching at the ties. I've also experimented with the fringe on a few of them. Cutting it very short and the strips very thin after I've tied it.

I wish I could post pictures of a few of them, they turned out so cool. Some of the patterns I've used have been leopard and tiger prints, animals, dog paw prints, trees and leaves, old fashiond little girls, Southwest themed, and Disney characters of course!

My favorite so far has been a beige blanket with swirls of brown and black that matched my SILs family room perfectly. She said they fight over that blanket when they watch T.V. and has been hinting around for another. Maybe I should just plan on making one for every person I know and get it over with!
