Does anyone remember this pie from when you were younger?

I'm so disappointed.. I made two of these pies for when my DD's in-law's came up this weekend and although it was fine - tasted yummy - and they loved it - it WASN'T the pie I was trying to make!:(

The recipe I used was for "Cool and Easy Pie" - which contained strawberry gelatin, Cool Whip, and a graham cracker crust.. It "looked" like the pie my Mom used to make when I was a kid - and tasted a lot like it - but it WASN'T "the" pie.. The consistency was all wrong..

It's hard to explain, but if you looked at a piece of the pie my Mom used to make it kind of looked like there were air holes in it and it tasted "foamy".. I also recall it being a deeper pink and the strawberry flavor was stronger..

Does ANYONE know what I'm talking about? Unfortunately my Mom never wrote it down and her mind is pretty much gone now..

I don't remember ever eating it, but I think I remember seeing it in tv commercials:confused:

Do you think that maybe your mom used a different "whipped topping"? Maybe she whipped her own or used Dream Whip.

You know, I was wondering that too because they probably didn't even have "Cool Whip" then.. Do you know if I can still get the Dream Whip anywhere? I would be SOOOOO happy if I could get that pie RIGHT!!!

Yes, they still make Dream Whip. I think it's in the isle by the jello and pudding mixes (at least in my store). Give it a try ~ what's the worst that could happen? ~ you get to eat a pie!!

Thanks! I'll give it a try.. I also remember a yummy cake frosting she made using the Dream Whip - but of course I don't have that recipe either...:(

Everytime that I use dream whip it reminds me of my Grandma.

Good luck with the recipe. I make chocolate pudding pies for a quick dessert sometimes and use dream whip for it.

I remember that pie! It is so good. Did you use the recipe off the Jello website?

No - I copied it from a magazine.. Even though it wasn't the right consistency (or the one that "I" wanted) it was a big hit.. :) Now I'm wondering what the other flavors would taste like because basically you can make it in any flavor that Jello comes in!

My DD asked if I would make one in cherry, so maybe I'll do that but try it with the Dream Whip next time..

I use this dream whip frosting recipe when I make jello poke cake.

1 env dream whip mix
1 pkg instant vanilla pudding mix
1 1/2 c cold milk
1 ts vanilla

(it take 7 or 8 minutes of whipping to make it fluffy!)

I think I know the pie you are talking about. Was it usually strawberry?? If so my grandmother use to make it all the time when I was little. It was made with sweeten condensed milk that was whipped. It was wonderful and very creamy. I'm not sure if I have a recipe for it. Its been so long since I have made it.

OMG! Jello poke cakes. I was thinking about trying to dig up a recipe this past weekend. We probably averaged one every two weeks or so in our fridge during the summers when I was growing up! It was a standby Sunday dessert, and I was the one who usually ended up making the cake!

Yup! Always strawberry..

Now I'm confused - was it the Dream Whip pie or the one you're speaking of?

We always made ours lemon but last summer we tried this...

small can Baccardi Strawberry Daquiri mix (thawed)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 small cool whip

Mix and put in a graham cracker crust. Freeze. I usually take it out and let it thaw about 10 - 15 minutes before serving.

We also tried lime and peach. YUMMMMM!

I LOVE Dream Whip! My mom makes the BEST cherry cheesecake that looks "foamy" with it...it's out of this WORLD!!

Here is the recipe off the Kraft website!! Enjoy.

2/3 c. boiling water
1 pkg (4 serving size) JELLO gelatin (any flavor)
ice cubes
1/2 c. cold water
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP topping, thawed
1 HONEY MAID Graham Pie Crust (6 oz.)

STIR boiling waer into gelatin in large bowl at least 2 minutes unitl dissolved. Add ice to cold water to make 1 cup. Add to gelatin, stirring until slightly thickened. Remove any remaining ice cubes.

ADD whipped topping; stir with wire whisk until well blended. Refrigerate 15-20 minutes or until mixture is very thick and will mound. Spoon into crust.

Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight until firm.

My favorite is strawberry or raspberry. Very easy to make!!

I DO remember these pies. My favorite was peach. My mother would put canned peaches in it.

Yes it was kind of foamy. It had a really nice texture to it. Maybe I'll try it this weekend and I'll let you know how it comes out. Thanks for the memory, though.

What I do is sometimes I will make the Jello recipe with strawberry jello and I then I will add some sliced strawberries to the mixture.

I found this recipe on several sites. It uses pudding, jello and Dream Whip.

STRAWBERRY DREAM PIE

1 pkg (4-oz) Jello vanilla pudding (regular, cooked type)
1 pkg (3-oz) strawberry flavored jello
2 cups water
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 1/2 cup whipped topping (Cool Whip or prepared Dream Whip)
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 baked 9" pie shell (cooled)

DIRECTIONS

1. Combine the pudding mix, jello, water and lemon juice in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until it boils. Pour into a large mixing bowl and cool. (The mixture will thicken as it cools).

2. Fold in the whipped topping and blend well. Stir in the sliced strawberries.

3. Pour the mixture into the pre-baked pie shell and chill until set (1-2 hours). Garnish with more whipped topping and a few strawberries.
