Does anyone recommend Contemporary Resort??

I've stayed at both the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. IMHO, the only advantage to CR is the monorail and proximity to the MK. For theming, decor, etc, WL has id beat hands down.

We love, love, love the CR! We are going again in Sept and have a Tower MK view room. You can get a 10-15% discount (depending on the season) with AAA. Also, Disney sometime releases discount codes for the general public or you can buy an AP (but discounts aren't guaranteed). Generally, for us AAA is the easiest way to ensure a good discount.
Thanks for explaining it to the OP. Since my family and I do not have AP's I don't know much about them and was only posting what I have read about the discounts people sometimes get.

Would love any information on CR! We have never stayed and would like to try it out! My husband thinks the monorail is cool, that's his reason for asking. Would like to know if the whole purpose of staying at the CR is to stay in the tower or is the garden wing acceptable too?
Thanks!!:confused3

If the 'view' and the Monorail is important, then I'd suggest you look at the Poly....unless you're staying in the CR tower with an MK view.

Don't forget a plus to staying at the Contemporary with the Monorail is that it's the 1st stop when leaving the Magic Kingdom, so if you're tired or have tired kids it does not take a long time to get back. Plus when going to Epcot the TTC is the next stop when leaving the Contemporary, so you don't have far to go when getting to the Epcot Monorail. So in some ways you can say the Monorail is more convenient at the Contemporary, then the other Magic Kingdom Monorail Resorts because of the direction it goes in.

The 'time difference' between the CR and the Poly, if one were to be honest about it, it less than 10-15 minutes, and therefore, on balance, not an issue to most. :)

The 2007 rack rate for the CR Tower MK view in Value season is $395. AAA discount for value season is 15%. That makes the room $335.75 before tax. If you book with an AAA agent, you can add the Disney Dining Plan. If you book through WDW, you get the AAA discount cannot add the dining plan.

That is an AWESOME rate!! Do you have to request that rate or do you just request the "CR MK view in the tower through AAA" and they automatically set the room and the discounted rate is adjusted? Now, with all the discounts being offered by every vendor on line or through Disney do you find the AAA the best deal??? I am exploring every option. I have booked our entire DV through AAA before and stayed at AKL, I have to say they did a tremendous job with everything and gave us the best deal. I would like to know how your experience was?

Thanks for your post and your help!!!!!!!!!!!!:thanks:

I book through AAA and have an EXCELLENT agent. If you need one, you can PM me. You just tell them what you want, and hopefully the room will be available. Those rates are for Value Season. In regular, the rate is higher and AAA discount is only 10%. We have had great success with the AAA rate and always add the dining plan. For a family of 5, it saves us quite a bit of money as we eat at lots of character meals. HTH!

BE CAREFUL...once you stay at the CR and have the MK view from the tower building...you can't turn back!!! It is hard for us to stay anywhere else now.

This was the very first Disney on site we stayed at, and have stayed at many times since. All of kids, all grown up now, think it's the "Only place to stay" at. Even though I love our BWV spot, if they build a DVC place there, I will have to buy there as well. It's as clear to me now as when it happened, all those nights sitting on our balcony MK side, listening and watching all those many fireworks shows, the good night kiss, etc. It's really worth it in my opinion.

You have stayed in some very nice rooms - all booked through AAA? We book our DV in Nov., value season. The weather is nice, crowds are few and you can't beat the price. We were thinking of staying in the CR on Thanksgiving week 2008. How soon should we book our trip for the MK view in the Tower? I hear they book up fast. Also, I checked all the rates for CR on the Dis Boards and they have the MK view you mentioned at $395, can I get the $315 price and still get a MK view??

Thanks:thumbsup2

What are your thoughts on staying at the resort for the first time while there is construction going on?
We're going to add two nights to our WDW trip in Sept. We're debating whether we should do the BC (stayed before) or try a new resort?

I'm hoping that when we plan our trip in Nov. 2008 most of the renovations at the CR will be complete. I don't know what it's like to stay at a resort during reovations or constr.

When you add too nights to your DV , is this because you want to extend what you have already booked to try some place new or is there a Disney incentive going on?
Thanks:)

Right now we are arriving on Labor Day and I thought what the heck we might as well arrive on a Saturday instead. I like to check out other resorts so I thought it might be fun to try a new resort before we head to our other resorts. I should probably just add those extra nights to our Polynesian/GF split. I just really like trying new resorts:) , but I don't want to give up the ones I already enjoy!

Yes, we have booked with AAA each time. Thanksgiving week will not be value season, so the rates will be higher. Value season for the Deluxes generally starts the Sun or Mon after Thanksgiving. For regular season the AAA discount is 10% and may not be available at all during holidays. You would need to contact your AAA agent. 2008 rates have not been released yet. You can book a CR Tower MK view room now with no discount, and then hope that you can apply the AAA rate once 2008 rates are released. HTH!

But yes, the $315 rate is the AAA rate for the Tower MK view room in value season if available. They only release so many rooms in each category to be discounted.
