Does anyone live near or close to St. Louis? Six Flags Question.

Okay here we go.

My DS, is 12 and the church youth dept. are taking a trip to Six Flags St. Louis at the end of the week. They are leaving here at 1 on Thursday and will spend Friday at Six Flags and Saturday at the zoo and then come home. The cost is going to be approx. $200 dollars.

We told J.C. that he could go on the Youth Trip but that he could also have the $200 to do with as he pleased if he wanted to stay here. Its his choice.

So his question is, how is Six Flags and the St. Louis Zoo. He is wanting to know about the heat, the crowds. For example how long is the average wait on the big coasters?

He told me that if it is going to be steaming hot and the waits are going to be hours then he would rather stay here. I told him that I could guarantee the heat but I wasn't sure about the crowds and wait.

I live in STL but I haven't been to Six Flags in years... but I just checked the local weather and Friday it is suppost to have partly cloudy chance of rain High around 82 and saturday is going to be the high of 79- great for the zoo. But the cool temps might bring the crowds to the zoo too. Hopefully someone else can help you out with six flags. Keep us posted.

I told him that during this time of the year there is ALWAYS the chance for rain and storms and I'm sure the rides are shut down until passes.

He said but how much rain........hummmmm I DON'T KNOW....ROTFLOL.

My dd lives in St. Louis... she says it is nasty this time of the year.. hot and humid.. with sporadic storms... but don't you live in Mississippi with similar hot-humid weather? so he might just be used to it....
My dh's family is from East St. Louis area .

My kids went to St. Louis Six Flags last year in August with their big sister. Kids were 16 and 13.... I just asked them how they remembered the lines for the rides to be... The replied.. the popular ride lines averaged btwn 45-90 minute wait which seemed long to them. They enjoyed the park.

St. Louis Zoo is MY favorite Zoo in the nation. I've been to the popular ones.. San Diego, Both Chicago, SF, etc... and I like the St. Louis Zoo the best, the kids enjoyed it too.

Is your son's youth group planning on doing The ARCH? It is a nice museum and a cool thing to do... very popular attraction.

I say go and have a good time. Youth group trips are usually fun and are filled with good memories.

My friend took her dd's to Six Flags last Sunday, and she said the wait time was minimal for all the rides. Kind of makes me wonder what's going on and if they are making any money. I was going to take dd's to 6-Flags this Friday, but youngest is in a cast so that won't be happening.

It's hot here now, but supposed to to cool down by Friday and be in the low 80's for the weekend.

I agree with MJ that St. Louis Zoo has to be the best if not one of the best in our country. I'm sure he'll have a great time if he comes.

i will tell you first hand, the st. louis zoo can't be beat. it is fabulous.
the six flags park is great, a lot smaller than others but can be done completely with repeat rides in two days.

i was born and raised in the st. louis area illinois side and moved north some years ago. i still go to six flags down there 2x a year. i live 10 minutes from the great america six flags north of chgo, but can't stay away from the other park.
it is never too crowded unless there are bussed groups in. no public transportation to the park so you either drive or you don't go.
that is one thing i like about that park.

you could easily split the day between both and do the highlights.
don't miss the lion exhibit at the zoo.

The weather on Saturday should be BEAUTIFUL--a great day to go to the zoo. And I agree with the others--we do have a great zoo here. It will probably be crowded, but it's so spread out that it probably won't feel "crowded". I can't tell you for sure because I never go to the zoo on the weekends.

Friday is calling for scattered storms, but still only a high of 78. So it *might* be a good day to go to 6 Flags. If there's a chance of storms, it might keep the crowds away (coupled with the fact that it's a weekday). However, I just checked the weather channel online (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USMO0282?from=search_city). The hourly forecast calls for rain/storms pretty much all day. One local news channel (www.ksdk.com) says the rain will die down by midday.

I guess you just have to decide how "lucky" you feel about the rain on Friday.

I was at 6 Flags last Sat. There was rain in the morning, but the afternoon was pleasant, in the low 80's. It brought out the crowds; the lines for most of the larger rides were about 75-90 minutes. You can rent a q-bot to shorten the waits; it's $10 extra.
There is an attached waterpark that shares the gate, but it closes early, so lots of folks do the waterpark first and move to the theme park later in the day.

The zoo is great, and is FREE. You can buy what they call an all-day pass, but it's a gimmick of sorts. The pass admits you to the Childrens' Zoo, the Insectarium, the Sea Lion show and the miniature train. Most adults need not bother paying for the pass unless they really like bugs (you can also pay for admission to each of these special things separately, so if you do like bugs, you can just drop the $4 for the insectarium.) BTW, outside food and drink are allowed there; so bringing in a picnic is fine.
