Does anyone live in the Niagara Falls area? Possibly looking to move.

I'm looking for people who live in the Niagara Falls (Ontario) area to tell me what they like about living there and what they don't like. I always told myself if I had the chance to move there I would and now that DH has just been laid off due to a company wide closure I've been contemplating it a lot. We currently live about 20 minutes north of Barrie. Anybody have any pro's or con's available?

We lived in Ontario until last summer and visited that area a lot. Honestly, I'd never live there, but Niagara on the Lake is somewhere I'd definitely consider...

We live outside of Niagara Falls, other side of St Catharines and we love it! Small town, fresh produce, close to Hamilton and Burlington. We are not huge fans of Niagara Falls itself, touristy and busy in the summer. However it has some wonderful areas and some not so wonderful areas so just make sure you fully investigate a neighbourhood.
Coming from Barrie, I would think housing prices would be a lot better out this way.

A friend lives close by in St. Catharine's. According to her the drawbacks are a shortage of local doctors, and a large amount of air-borne allergens. There's a lot of chemical spraying done on the Niagara Peninsula.

Pluses, depending where you live, moderate winters. Close to the Shaw and NOTL. Close to the border. Wine.

I worked in Niagara Falls for a couple of years and commuted in from Burlington. ( Not a recommendation) There are two sides of the Niagara falls, the tourist area and where the locals are. There is a lot of older housing in the area and a lot of people work seasonally. Id look at Welland or St. Catherines.

I grew up in the area (actually in Thorold) and wow do I ever miss it. Even now when I take my kids back there they always say "Why did you ever leave?" lol. I would never live right in the city of Niagara Falls itself, but the Niagara Region has a lot of beautiful places. I think if you have the opportunity - go for it. It's a lovely area to live in. But I agree stay out of Welland lol.

I don't have any plans to go to Welland, haha. We like the small town feel of Niagara Falls and the close proximity to the border. We fly out of Buffalo anyway so it would nice to be so much closer. My husbands sister used to live there so I have visited quite a few times. I didn't mind the tourist section, where I live now we get a lot of tourists anyway because of the waterfront. We have a lot of festivals and stuff going on during the warmer months. Thanks for everyone's opinions! We're still sorting things out with DH's job loss so once we figure out some of that we will look into moving further.
