The pools. The kids had a great time. The staf is very nice.. food was good. Close to outlets. I am not sure about Sutch Wonderland.

For rooms I stayed in the Center Building and had a pool view. It was nice because I opened my door and the indoor pool was right there. Also you can walk over to the Atrium buidling where the "park" pool is without going outside. Great it it rains.

The only section I would not book is the south building. It is not connected to the other buildings.

Willow Valley is wonderful and I'd also recommend it if your destination is Lancaster. If, however, your destination is Hersey, I'd recommend the SpringHill Suites by Marriott. Spacious rooms with mini-fridge and microwave, nice sitting area and a good breakfast buffet included in the room price. It is just down the street from the Hershey attractions.

I have stayed at the holiday inn harrisburg east several times (at least 15) in the past 20 years. I usually call them directly and get quotes, watch the local papers (in jersey) for specials, and call the 800 number for holiday inn to compare package prices and such. A few things I can share. The property is large and fun. If you have a few families going you will find it very easy to use the patios (for group pizza nights). There is a hottub that is very inviting, especially late august when the nights can get cool, a very large outdoor pool and a heated indoor pool. There is a mini 9 hole golf range that the kids love along with the dads. Its only 10 minutes from Hershey, 45 minutes from Gettysburg, and 45 minutes from Lancaster (we love lancaster too) - we have spent mostly weekends but three times we went for full weeks - for rainy days there is a bowling alley, museums in Harrisburg and theatres. We have panned for gold at indian caverns and took the old railroad ride from middletown (complete with singing conducters.) Kids eat free too.

Check your ENT rates too - my daughter hotwired a stay at a different hotel (she has been going there her entire life and now that she is an adult she has been there more then me) with a few of her friends and got a fantastic rate but wasnt as pleased with the hotel. The rooms at the Holiday Inn are designed for the corporate visitor so they are very roomy so she is spoiled.

The Hilton Garden Inn is very new and beautiful from what I have been told. And that is closer to Hershey. I have been told the Holiday Inn in Grantsville is nice too - several people that used to stay in East Harrisburg now goto the Grantsville one... but the rooms cost more. I guess if you only go for one night the Hotel doesnt matter - I like to relax in between the running around and hate it when I am smothered because a room is too small.

Have fun. I will be there late august :)

You said you are used to Disney deluxe hotels - have you looked into the Hotel Hershey or the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center? If you are looking for something less expensive, there is a new Hampton Inn right on Chocolate Avenue - near the Hershey Chocolate Factory, and next door is a really lovely little cafe, the Hershey Pantry and next to that is Spinners restaurant which also has motel rooms. Depends on what you want to spend. The ambience of Hershey is lovely if you are only staying a couple of days. You need to check out the town. I live here, so if you need more ideas, pm me and I can look up some ideas or even mail you some brochures from the area. I can stop at our AAA to get you some information, and I am familiar with just about everything. Willow Valley is lovely, and has some nice restaurants. It is not near Dutch Wonderland (which Hershey also owns now). I hope you enjoy your trip. Don't miss Chocolate World and the trolley ride - it is well worth the money, and you will see the town and its historical sites, as well as being entertained by the cast.

We Pricelined a hotel when we went to Hershey last June. Ended up with Crowne Plaza in Harrisburg. Really easy drive to Hershey and great price ($42/night) It is in the city and you do have to pay for parking, but it was by far the cheapest rate I could find for any hotel. We walked to City Island (or something like that in Harrisburg and had a great time.) Hershey is wonderful. Have a great trip.

My parents live near Hershey. There are some new hotel/motels in Hershey. They usually fill up fast. We have been to both the Hershey Hotel and the Lodge for dinner. Both are very nice. If you have the money, the Hotel Hershey is great because it is so close to the park. The Sunday Brunch at both places is great. At the Hotel we like the brunch in the room with all the stain glass windows. We usually request a table near the window when we make our dinner reservation. My parents prefer the brunch at the Lodge. It's more relaxed and casual. If you are going to be near Lancaster, you should eat at the Amish house my parents did recently. You mail in a reservation and it's at the Amish people's house. The whole family serves the dinner. There is no formal charge, a plate goes by and you give what you want. Most people gave $10-20. Off hand I don't know where this is, but I could easily find out from my parents.

The Holiday Inn @ Harrisburg West is wonderful. It is a quick straight highway drive into Hershey, about 10-15 minutes. They have a wonderful indoor pool, with a great hottub. The pool is in a tropical themed setting, and the have rooms that open right up to the pool. Make sure to join the Holiday Inn Priority Club, you will get a late check out, and an upgrade if available. We like this hotel even better that the Holiday Inn Express across the street from Hershey.

Have Fun,

Dee

Hello.....well I would say if you are used to staying in Deluxes definitely check out Hershey Hotel. It is supposed to be an absolutely beautiful hotel and close to the parks. While Harrisburg would be your next closest city to stay in, traffic can get quite hairy there. Rush hour gets to be crazy and what should take a 10 minute ride can turn into an hour and a half. City Island is the name of the Island on the Susquehanna and is really nice :) I lived in both Harriburg (east shore) and in Camp Hill (west shore). There is definitely animosity between the two shores and City Island was an attempt to bring the two shores together. I spent many days on City Island walking, kids roller blading, etc. Lancaster is a bit of a drive if your main goal is the park. Make sure to drive into Hershey to see the Kiss Lights. Really cute, but I was disappointed that they were not right there at the park. Also be prepared to smell 'chocolate' in the air. You can definitely smell the cocoa and even more so in town. Its only a few min. drive from the park. The tHershey hotel also offers cocoa baths and a health spa using chocolate for everything. There are some lower price hotels right there as well, but I can't think of their names off the top of my head. It's been about a decade since I lived there.

The Holiday Inn East is under major renovation (which is a good thing, because it was getting very "used" and my last stay there 10/04 was disgusting). It has an incredible outdoor pool area that would be nice when updated. I stayed in the Holiday Inn Grantville in Dec. 04, it has a nice indoor pool for winter stays. Some rooms open into the pool area. It is a Holiday Inn and I would give it 3 of 5 stars. It is certainly not a deluxe by any standards, including the typical Holiday Inn food. BUT with the entertainment rate, it can be $65 per night. I would not pay more than $85 for the room. Both hotels are about 15 - 20 minutes from Hershey. There are some brand new hotels right outside the park entrance, including the Holiday Inn Express.

yeah but the hotels on hershey property dont offer such good discounts like disney does :rotfl: and unfortunately we cant afford it at such a high rate

We just love the Hersey Pantry. It's our favorite place for breakfast. French toast stuffed with flavored cream cheese, the best.

We enjoyed the Hershey Lodge but certain sections were starting to get really beat looking. I understand they recently renovated and now have queen beds. They have several pools, tennis courts and free miniature golf. We're planning on going there this summer.

oooh I can't believe all the good info I find on these boards! My husband really wants to go to an auto show in hershey this fall. He just needs a place to sleep. Cheap cheap and cheaper (roaches are fine, dirty is acceptable, really won't be spending much time here) Any recommendations?

I believe the Hershey Lodge is WAY out of our budget!

Dirty....hmmm first thing I thought of with dirt and cheap was there is always camping! :rotfl: I'm not sure when in the fall you plan on going or even if you like camping. If you don't want quite that dirt and cheap then try searching for the Rodeway Inn.

I also agree in Willow Valley if you llike deluxe this is it for Amish Country. The lancaster host is also nice about 30 minutes from disney. The holiday in harrisburgh east is also another one about five minutes from hersey.
