if they have a store in DTD that has snack type items? DD12 and i will be arriving around 7 in the morning, and the resort said we can do early check in and leave our bag. we will be using a town car service, but with the early check in i didnt want to make a grocery stop as i will have no place to put it. so i figured if they had some snack food type of things at DTD. we could grab some there, as that is were we are spending part of our first day after we check in and leave our bags.

also we have ps for planet hollywood for 2, but after that we are free, so i thought it might be nice to check out some of the resort decorations. is it hard using disney transportation to get the different resorts?
TIA

Let me see if I can remember. We were there in April so lets see. I know they have a candy store. Even though the kids will concider this snack food, I am sure you will not. But they really don't have a snack shop. I mean you can eat down there. Oh they have Earl Of Sandwich which is highly recomendable, espically my DW. But nothing like a grocery store type of place, unless they added stuff since April.

There really isn't anything that I'm aware of in the DTD area that has a wide variety of snack items. If you say where are you staying and what types of things are you looking for, I might be able to recommend a course of action.

As for using Disney transportation to tour the resorts, you can definitely get from place to place, but determining the optimal route ahead of time will be in your best interest. Which resorts were you thinking of touring?

thank you for your replies.we are staying at all star sports. i dont think we will even be in the room except to sleep, but just thought that some snacks would be great.
my DD wants to go see grand floridian and animal kindom lodge. she has watched the wdw christmas show with samantha brown so many times, i think she can quote it..lol i think she just wants to see the stuff samantha talked about like the gingerbread house.
thanks again

I am not sure about All Stars, but at POP you can check your snacks with your luggage when you arrive. They even have a fridge to put you items in, if needed, until your room is ready. It might be worth a call to see, or post it in a separate thread.

if you're looking for a quick bite. i believe there is a mcdonald's at dtd.

DTD stores don't open really early.

Adjacent to Earl of Sandwich there is still a little shop that sells some goodies.

After your lunch, you might wait for a bus to the Grand Floridian, Polynesian or Contemporary (usually two of those resorts will be sharing). From any of those resorts, you can take the resort monorail to visit the other two. The resort monorail will also stop at the MK and from there you can transfer to a boat to visit the Wilderness Lodge. You transfer to the boat without entering MK so you won't need to use admission. After that you could also take a bus from the MK to The AKL. You will need to transfer to a park to return to your hotel however. AKL to AK to your hotel would probably be fastest.

That is a great suggestion about the hotel storing your snacks!!! I would definitely call the All-Star and ask what types of items they can store (particularly if you are planning on getting something like milk that will need refrigeration). Either way, if the All-Star can store your snacks, I would recommend that you ask the Towncar service to make a stop at the "Crossroads Area", which is a shopping plaza located at SR 535 and Hotel Plaza Blvd. in Lake Buena Vista. I have read in other threads that the limo services are usually willing to make a quick stop if you arrange it ahead of time (don't know if they charge extra for it though).

In terms of touring the resorts, you have two options. The fastest and most direct would be to catch a cab from DTD to the Grand Floridian. I think this will cost you around $15 (including tip). Alternatively, take a bus to the TTC. From there, you can tour the monorail hotels (GF, Poly & CR). Both the bus station and the taxi station are right outside of Planet Hollywood.

For touring AKL, this is a little trickier (and you might ask over in the Disney Resorts forum about the best way to get to and from there). I would guess the best way, if you're already on the monorail route, would be to get off at MK, walk to the bus station, and find the bus for AKL. I think the problem you'll have with AKL is that there will not be a direct bus between there and All-Star, so you'll end up having to take a bus to one of the theme parks or to the TTC and transfer to another bus that will take you to All-Star. Of course, you will have the option of calling a cab if you want to go directly from AKL to All-Star.

Hope this helps!

I should try this again. Like others I was trying to help as you added more info.

Just an FYI....there are no resort buses to the TTC other than those for WL/FW. Also don't think that the DTD bus goes to the TTC?

If you want to visit AKL and GF after lunch at DTD, I would first catch an AKL bus. Tour there and then catch an MK bus. From the MK, you can catch the resort monorail or the small launches (all the way to the right in the "harbor") :boat: to the GF. If you want to pop into the CR and Polynesian, take the resort monorail. The GF will be the last stop. When you are finished there, take the monorail back to the MK and catch the bus to AllStars.

According to the WDW transportation guide, everything from DTD West Side either goes directly to certain specific resorts or first to TTC. Given the number of different resorts, I would guess that a TTC bus might be available before the resort you might specifically need (which is why I recommended that route), but it is luck of the draw.

If you are set on touring AKL, then BCV23 makes a good point about going there first, then catching another bus to MK and touring the monorail resorts. It would definitely be less trips that way than the way I suggested.

dcmbshafe, can you check your guide about those DTD/TTC buses? Is there something about operating only before or only after 4:00? We don't take the bus to DTD but I thought either those buses no longer ran (and I mean for some years now) or only during certain hours??? Thanks.

Well rats... :guilty: ...I must apologize to tinkandhook, BCV23 and anyone else who has read through this thread. Indeed I am using an outdated copy of the WDW transportation guide. I confirmed on the phone with WDW that buses no longer go between DTD and TTC, so please ignore my transportation advice in this thread.

Wow, when you check...you realy check! :D Thanks.

Don't you hate it when something you thought you could count on at the World CHANGES!! I remember some years back a group of couples got on the bus after HoopDeeDoo. They were long time WDWers and were planning on taking a tried and true route. I can't remember anymore where they were going but it had changed and they were going to have to transfer again. Luckily, they were all having a fun and relaxed time and took it in good stride.
