I tried Ebay but I need a lot of them and shipping would kill me!

We are redoing our Teens room at Church in a garage type of theme and plan on plastering one whole wall with old license plates.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

I saw a news show about an artist that uses them in his work. He gets out of service plates at the DMV. I would guess they mark them in some way that makes them unusable on a vehicle. :confused3

Some states destroy old plates that are turned in. But maybe you could put a small request in the church bulletin asking people to donate their old tags.
Never knowm someone might have a bunch of them in their garage that would be happy to get rid of them! :)

I know that my uncle got a whole lot of them when our state discontinued that design. They didn't mark them, because you had to have the stickers to go on them to make them usable. Also, as I said, the design had changed.

I'm guessing that you want license plates from different states, different years, etc. for atmosphere.

Announcing at church is good (have them check with relatives), and the junkyard idea is great. Also, posting on here was a good idea. I'll check to see if we have anything at home. If we do, I'll get back with you.

Check for the local 'cruise in' spots in your neighborhood. The spot where the classic car guys take thier rides on saturday night. Everybody needs old plates for their cars. They can tell you where to go local for them if they don't have them themselves.
That's where I got plates for my '72 Chevelle

Great ideas thanks!

I have called the local salvage yards and 2 are willing to let us come and take what they have. I think Im going to make that a service project for the teens, they camn take screwdrivers down there and take themoff the vehicles.

They put out a call in bulletin as well. I am kind of hoping we can get some variety as well and not just Idaho ones.

If anyone has any they wouldnt mind parting with I would be glad to pay for shipping. ( I hope thats ok to post here, you all know me, I dont ask for things)

Thanks!
