Hi Ya'll;
I seem to remember someone posting some really cool dis'igns for t-shirts with references to autism and neurodiversity. One was stitch and said, Maybe Stitch is autistic too, that would explain a lot. Anyway, I want to make a couple of shirts for DD and DS for the trip- I figure we're gonna get stared at no matter what, but maybe we'll get a few less "helpful" comments;) (I still have occasional nightmares about things said to us the last trip.)
Thanks
Nicole

Not sure where to find them but if you want them to say something specific I could probably make something up for you.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience last time. Do you mind if I ask what was said?

A little note: I have read on boards how having a shirt, stickers or other things lets strangers know that your kid is not a brat but has something that causes the child to be different. Sometimes you might even meet someone and start talking about autism. You might even end up helping them out with links and tips.

Under the crafts section, I had seen some designs awhile back.

If you ask over there, someone is bound to make one for you. :)

Thanks; my kids have ASD, but DD also has Bipolar and DS has a congenital brain malformation; I've been trying to come up with an idea for a shirt that celebrates neurodiversity while still getting the point across, but not negative-as you can see, I haven't had any yet, but if ya do- please let me know:worship: :worship: As far as the "comments" last time; a lot of "You can't bring that stroller in here" (A couple of times it was CM's even after we showed our red sticker, but most were great). What makes you so special? Why do they get to go ahead of us? (We were going to another, longer line, but who's counting) Hey! The line's over here!! Some people just don't control their kids, Don't you think they're a little old for that stroller? How come you're using the w/c entrance? You don't look sick!! Nothing that bad, but even though you brush it off, now that the trips getting closer I'm having nightmares about it, wondering if DD will notice this time, etc. sigh, But; WDW is still my Laughing Place and I'm mostly really looking forward to it! It would just be nice to be able to show people that my kids aren't bad kids and I'm not a bad parent the next time DD melts down and it doing the kicking biting scratching screaming "I hate You" thing in line- without having to say anything else.

Thanks MeChurchLady: Those are just what I was remembering; and I'm really hoping that some shirts, stickers on their ear protectors, etc. will help. And I'm always happy to educate people who are open to learning.:goodvibes
OT: I'm praying for you about the San Antonio Trip.

Totally off t-shirt topic...on our last trip to Disney my DH stepped outside the hotel room to call his mom and couldn't help but overhear the conversation of our neighbors who were sitting outside also, discussing their fears that one of their little twins might have autism. Somehow I don't think it was coincidence that we ended up neighbors....we had a long talk and have stayed in contact during their journey!

Isn't it amazing how we are put in places to support each other when we need it? I'm so grateful for those who have been there for me; and am really encouraged when I'm able to support someone else!

Thanks LuvsTinker; I asked, but so far nothin'. I'm feeling a little unloved:sad2: But that's o.k., b/c I still have you guys:cool1:

how old are ur kids, boys or girls?
tx

I have a princess who's 8 and a cowboy who's 6:)
I love your cards/tag w/ the stick family by the way; they're awesome! Can you modify that or do you know if the Disigner is still active on the boards? Thanks

telynn can be found on the creative disigns thread, along with rumbly tumbly and donatalie, there are some amazing people who share for free, they amaze with, both with their talent but also their time.
in the sigs are links to autism "work" amd theu will also personalise it too.
I have done a tink, "I tink you should be patient my son has autism" where she is sat on the autism ribbon, which i will post tomorrow , its late here in the UK, and one for dh "dont be grumpy my son has autism" which i will also post.
rumblytumbly (kari) has some mazing disigns, ahe is a star!!
if you want to pm me your kids names i will do the disigns for them, and the pirates charters too.
as to wether they work and people are more patient, i dont know, but ill let you know with pleasure when we get back:cloud9:

The designs are cute but I would caution using the Aspie's one. I had never heard that term for Asperger's until I came here- and I am in special ed. I doubt many people in the general populace would have a clue. It might be better to just use one that says "autism" on it since most people know what that is.

PM me your e-mail address. I created a couple one word but I'm not sure how to post them here.

OOh, Tracy; Can you do that tinkerbell one but saying, I have Autism... b/c we actually call Caitie Tinkerbell (and our way of letting her know she's getting a little out of control w/o being combative is to call her "stinkerbell" and then giggle) It actually kind of snaps her out of a meltdown-sometimes; anyway, it would be awesome to have that design for her.

the easiest way to post images is to save them as a jpeg and then upload them onto a photo share site, i use photobucket which is free.

nicole, i will do that for you, no problem, dh has rearranged the computer and i need to wait until he gets home;) to find things. MEN! Do you want I have autism and "my daughter has autism" so you can match?
I can do your son one too if you tell me his favourite character with "my sister has autism". they are actually easy to do,
IMGP0030.jpg

i change this if you like (thats the printed version ill send you the jpeg!
what about 1 of these for her?
princesscharter.jpg

my ds needs to kow rules all the time, so if this is something that would help ill do this for you, we have got the kids to sign them, then they are being blu tacked to the inside of the room door, to be read before going to the park each day!

that image is rumbly tumblys, we have small ones on the sleeves of the majority of our shirts, although josh has his "see the world through my eyes" shirts and the stitch ones, we wanted something to help too. all of my shirts have either that puzzle or my green dis head on them, sometimes both:lmao:

Thanks. I could not remember from whom I got the image from. I also like the idea of putting it on the sleaves.

Wow - great thread and great dis-signs! I was looking for something like this for my youngest, but had no idea this kind of artwork was out there. Thanks for asking the question Ireland Nicole! :goodvibes
