Does anyone know where to buy the chewable bonine for seasickness?

 Hi, everyone. I was at Costco the other day looking to buy some bonine for seasickness, but they only had one bottle brand of pill.

I haven't checked Walmart or any of the drug stores, yet.

I was interested in the chewable bonine instead of the pill form. I don't know why. I just thought that it would be easier to take and carry, like chewing gum.

I have found that most drugstores carry it (I pick it up at Walgreens). However, most grocery stores or superstores (like Super Wal Mart and Super Target) don't seem to carry it. Maybe because they don't have as wide a variety of products in their pharmacy section in general.

If you look when you get to the drug store, non-drowsy Dramamine has the same active ingredient, but it is not chewable. So if you need some for yourself as well as the little ones, you might be able to get the tables for yourself and save a little bit of money!

Hi:

We are leaving on the Halloween Wonder cruise in just a few days and I just picked up the chewable Dramamine because I have small kids from our Wegmans store. Walmart did not carry it. You could try your grocery store.

I picked up the chewable Bonine at WalMart. It was in a little blue box, I think there were 8 per box for under $3...worked like a charm. Take one the night before you get on the ship and continue to take it for a day or so after you get off.

 Thank you everyone for your replies. I have a new Walgreens that just opened a few miles away.

I don't know if I will get sea sick, but I do have a balance problem because of my right leg which I know Bonine won't help.

I may try the Bonine before I go on Epcot's Test Track this time. The first and last time that I rode Test Track I truly almost lost my breakfast. Sorry for the mental picture...lol.

Bonine needs to be taken ahead of time to be effective (guess it needs to get into your system). Start with one the night before the cruise (or the ride on Test Track!). If you take it right beforehand, it's too late.

In the United States, Bonine and Dramamine Less Drowsy Formula -- both of which are the same dose of the same active ingredient, Meclizine Hydrochloride -- are available without a prescription in just about any drug strore, discount store or grocery store with an over-the-counter medicine section. These products are usually stocked with the antacids.

That's not be the case in some other countries. For example, in Canada, Meclizine Hydrochloride is branded as Bonamine and requires a prescription. See http://www.pfizer.ca/english/our pr...on sickness/bonamine/BONAMINE/default.asp?s=1

At K-Mart they had the Bonine behind the counter, you have to ask the Pharmasist(sp?)for it.

Was just on Magic. Chewable Bonine was available free on board outside the door of the healthcare services on deck one. Seems to me if you got there early on the first day, you could just get all you wanted and take it long before the ship sails. Chewing not recommended by me.. YUCK!!!

However... I never had a problem even though I am very prone to motion sickness. I did take Bonine on the first day when I felt just a little queasy just in case but quit taking it. This ship is mostly very smooth. On the last night, late, coming back from Castaway Cay, it was not smooth and we staggered along the deck. Did not feel one bit queasy. I was completely used to motion, I guess. It was really quite fun.

I felt more queasy in the Walmart after my trip when I suddenly realized I was reacting to the floor moving, when it wasn't. :)

Ray,

I have relatives who take bonine every day they are at WDW - this alleviates decision-making when it comes time for attractions. In fact, they take it a couple of days before leaving including taking it for flights.

I'd test it before using it though, my brother swears it made him ill. You don't want that happening when you need it most!

Good luck!

My girlfriend swears the Bonine she had on the first day made her more drunk.... personally... I think it was the 2 Bahama Momma drinks she had... :)

 Thank you everyone for all the information.

I was thinking that the chewable Bonine was like chewing gum for some reason. I think that I'll stick with the pill form.

i took the non-drowsy formula around breakfast time, and by
early afternoon, I felt exhausted. I guess it still makes some people drowsy!!

try it before you go to see how long it takes to take effect and
if it makes you sleepy or not?

good luck.

I haven't finished the thread yet so sorry if someone has addressed this but no, it's not by prescription in Canada. I bought some today at the drug store. In some locations it is on the shelves and at the one I went to today, it was behind the pharmacist's counter, but I just had to ask for it. She didn't even give me any kind of warning or anything.

Question - I've heard that it's non-drowsy but my package says "avoid driving and heavy machinery. May cause drowsiness. Avoid alcohol." Does the U.S. packaging say that? Since you take one tablet for 24 hours, that would mean no drinking or risk sea sickness. Can anyone comment on that warning? Is it just one of those cases of every possible disclaimer being there, just in case>
