I know there is a limit to what DVC will let you own in points. Does anyone know what it is?

I was fooling around with the numbers, and trying to see what I would need for points to stay at an OKW 2 bedroom for an entire year. 13,936 points to be exact. So, if I won power ball, a 14,000 point contract would cost me a mere $1,246,000.00 at $89.00 a points. The maintenance on that is only around $45,000.00 a year.

What does daily housekeeping cost? :rolleyes1

I recall reading in some of the "official" papers or the offering that the max. points was 2000 points/resort and 5000 points/DVC member.

However, one could own the max points and then their spouse could also own the max points.

I also recall the fellow who guided us through OKW in November '97 mentioning that the max time they would let one stay is for 6 months. However, I wouldn't mind moving if that's all I had to do to live at Disney year round.

Yes, there is a caveat that the resort can't be your permanent residence. So....we have to take a few side trips to Vero, HHI or a week or two in the GF. ;-)

...of some lucky souls who have purchased enough points to spend the winter at OKW -- January, February and March.

Ah. Nice. :D

If I remember correctly, you cannot stay at a resort for more than 29 or 30 days straight. Otherwise, you it qualifies you as a resident. I remember reading and being told that you have to checkout and check back in if you wanted to stay longer...however, this could have changed.

It's probably just me, but after 6-7 days on Disney turf I'm done for the year. I don't look forward to going back until the summer and at least 6 months go bye.

These are the numbers but the spouse would have to be listed alone and not on the husbands contract.

It is just you :earboy2:. We stay much longer. 10+ days per trip, two trips a year. That's why we bought into DVC!

Yep, it probably IS just you. :D

For us, we usually have our next 2-3 trips booked at any one time. We usually do several long-weekend typ of trips, and one full week trip a year.

Actually your numbes are slightly off and for most years you'd need more than 14,000 points. The actual breakdown is as follows:

Points required to stay in a 2-B/R unit at OKW for the entire year:

2004: 14066 points
2005: 14036 points
2006: 13971 points
2007: 13976 points
2008: 14011 points
2009: 13971 points
2010: 14036 points

The difference year to year is due to the differences the weekdays/weekends fall within the Disney seasons within the specific year.

The screenshot below shows how many points it would take to stay for the year 2005 in any of the DVC resort/villa combinations possible.

Nope. Not just you. A week or so every year does me just fine, too.

In fact, we just got back and I am considering (albeit not very seriously, LOL) selling our DVC. Probably just Disney'd out for the moment. Hope I'll be OK again before January gets here so I can be in the proper mood to book our 2005 trip. :teeth:

Best wishes -

The maximum purchase amount as noted above is 2,000 points at any one resort and 5,000 total. You could arguably double that by having husband and wife purchase separately, each in his and her own name without any joint ownership, although that could create a legal issue as to true intent and Disney could possibly act to prevent it as an improper purchase designed by you to circumvent legal restrictions you agreed to abide by (not a significant risk it would mount that challenge unless Disney believes what you are doing is just going into the business of renting the units). There is no rule as to how long you can stay continuously at one resort (any guide who said otherwise is incorrect). The fact that you might stay there for an extended time creates no risk with the residency laws because any stay there cannot be used by you to establish residency in Florida.

I would be more than happy witha studio room at BWV for a year. give me the 5000 points and Ill come home for a couple weeks per year. :earboy2:

CarolMN,
Sounds like a little burn out on Disney for you. Chin up....I'm sure by January you'll be wishing for warm sunshine. Winters are cold in our parts of the country! Counting my days till March 8!!!

Same here. But I think that's partly because my family burns out and that makes it less enjoyable for me.

So we're going to Hilton Head this summer for a change. We've got our 2BR booked in May.

for a year. Maybe even switch up part way through to try out the different resorts. Maybe even stay for 3 weeks a month, come home for a week to check on the house and local matters and then go back to the magic.
That would be nice.

Terri

Oooh, and with an investment in an annual pass. You could still go to the parks everyday to while away your time. If you were independently wealthy and didnt have to work.

*plans for a future a disney*
