Does anyone know this relatively obscure song?

Patiently (well, not really) waited to see if the OP figured it out yet....this is driving me and my sister nuts!!

How about "Weirdo" by New Order?

"Weirdo"

The other day I came across
Someone I knew and he was lost
I don't care what we have done
You never will believe it
It's a life that's made for me
Where I can be completely free
So long as I obey this sound
That echoes all around
Just like the ocean or the sea
Just like the blood that burns in me
Someone like you cannot be free
Just like a lock without a key
Just like the ocean or the sea
Just like the blood that burns in me
Someone like you cannot be free
Just like a lock without a key

Just like the ocean or the sea
Just like the blood that burns in me
Someone like you cannot be free
Just like a lock without a key
Just like the ocean or the sea
Just like the blood that burns in me
Someone like you cannot be free
Just like a lock without a key

So, I thought this cannot be
There's someone else in here with me
I don't care where we have been
You never will believe it
I know you and you know me
And we're as happy as we can be
I know where this world belongs
It don't mean much to me
Just like the ocean or the sea
Just like the blood that burns in me
Someone like you cannot be free
Just like a lock without a key

Okay, now KimR - this HAS to be it. Not an obscure artist, but this is one of his more obscure songs (and one of my faves of his)

Trapped - by Bruce Springsteen

Seems like I'm caught up
in your trap
again
Seems like I'll be
wearing the same
old chains
Good will conquer
Evil
And the truth will
set me free
And I know some
day I will find
the key
I know
somewhere I will
find the key

Seems like I've
been playing your
game way too long
Seems the game
I've played has
made you strong
When the game is
over
I won't walk out the
loser
I know I'll walk
out of here again
I know someday
I'll walk out of
here again

Well now I'm
Trapped
Oooh yeah
Trapped
Oooh Yeah
Trapped

Seems like I've
been sleeping in
your bed too
long
Seems like you've
been meaning to
do me harm
But I'll teach my
eyes to see
Beyond these
walls in front of
me
Someday I'll walk
out of here again
Someday I'll walk
out of here again

Trapped
Oooh yeah
Trapped
Oooh Yeah
Trapped
Opoh Yeah
Trapped
Oooh Yeah

Seems like I've
been playing your
game way too long
Seems the game
I've played has
made you strong

Trapped
Oooh yeah......etc.

My first 2 thoughts were Poison - "Talk Dirty To Me" & Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage/Eclipse", but you said no bands....

Next thing I thought of was Paul McCartney's "Let 'em In", but this is older than what you are thinking about....

Someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
do me a favor, open the door and let 'em in.

Someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
do me a favor, open the door and let 'em in.

Sister Suzie, brother John, Martin Luther, Phil and Don,
uncle Ernie, auntie Jin, open the door, let 'em in, oh yeah.

Someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
do me a favor, open the door and let 'em in now.

Sister Suzie, brother John, Martin Luther, Phil and Don,
uncle Ernie, uncle Ian, oh oh
, open the door, let 'em in, oh yeah, yeah.

Someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell,
do me a favor, open the door and let 'em in yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

CONTEMPLATING LOVE

©1995 by Joel Cage/Big Sixteen Music Back home in kentucky There's a saying that they all have Something about steering clear Of things you don't understand And if I could heed this calling And be free from my old man I would find the strength to walk that walk And take you by the hand chorus And I would take you home And I would take you home And I would take you home Take you home and keep you for myself It's so easy to believe in All the things that make you feel so good But so many learn the hard way That love can't be understood And if I had my freedom And I knew that it would never end I would walk into the open arms Of loves imprisonmentAnd take you by the hand chorus And I would take you home And I would take you home And I would take you home Take you home and keep you for myself I am not a special man Exempt from what I am not above I am just on no certain terms no certain terms Contemplating love Now I have seen the morning Born of god's unearthly light Rising up bathed in the glow Of the memory of last night Nd if I could believe I Was the one that you cared for Maybe I could throw away the key To the lock on my back door And I would take you home And I would take you home And I would take you home Take you home and keep you for myself I am not a special man Exempt from what I am not above I am just on no certain terms no certain terms Contemplating love

I'm just googling year and lyrics, how about this one?

Marc Cohn, 29 Ways

29 Ways

I got 29 ways to make it to my baby’s door
I got 29 ways to make it to my baby’s door
And if she needs me bad
I can find about two or three more

I got one through the basement
Two down the hall
And when the going gets tough
I got a hole in the wall
(Chorus)

I can come through the chimney like Santa Claus
Go through the window and that ain’t all
A lot of good ways I don’t want you to know
I even got a hole in the bedroom floor

(Chorus)

I got a way through the closet behind her clothes
A way through the attic that no one knows
A master key that fits every lock
A hidden door behind the grandfather clock

(Chorus)

Okay, one more I thought of, although this artist reminds me nothing of REM. He's all honky-tonk. Love him though!

Delbert McClinton's "Every Time I Roll the Dice"

She's got a roof that don't leak
When the rain's pouring down
She's got a place I can sleep
Where I'm safe and sound
She's got a lock on her door
But she gave me a key
She don't walk the floor
Oh, but she worries about me

Chorus:
Her love has no strings, shackles or chains
But I'm holding on for dear life
She's like rolling a seven
Everytime I roll the dice

She's got a big Oldsmobile
She's got a dog that don't bite
She's got a heart I can steal
Like a thief in the night
She's got a slow burning fire
She keeps the radio low
When she gets inspired
We let the good times roll

No, none of those so far.

Bad Religion?

"Incomplete"

mother, father, look at your little monster,
I'm a hero, I'm a zero,
I'm the butt of the worst joke in history,
I'm a lock without a key,
a city with no door, a prayer without faith,
a show without a score,
I'm a bad word, a wink, a nod, a shiver,
an untold story, sex without purity,
a creeping gray memory,
I am incomplete....incomplete....incomplete....incomplete

doctor, cure me; what is the cause of my condition,
this madness shoots me,
like bullets smashing glass in a silent movie,
I'm a trap without a spring,
a temple with no god,
a jack without an ace,
the tip of your tongue,
I'm a promise, an unmailed letter,
an unbuilt motor, deck without a joker,
a creeping gray memory
I am incomplete....incomplete....incomplete....incomplete

tell Saint Peter not to bet on me,
I got a naked obsession,
a good intention gone bad,
I am incomplete....incomplete....incomplete....incomplete

Bryan Adams, Getaway?

drove all night form new york city
in your best friend's car
knocked on my door about five thirty
nursing a broken heart
still got your keys in your back pocket - still got your
jacket on
back door's oben baby - I don't lock it
we can leave anytime we want

I got my motor runnin' - fingers drummin'
I never planned to stay
getaway - ya know it's now or never
getaway - nobody lives forever
we're only waitin' just to make you getaway

hey baby we were good together
seemed like you'd always be my girl
but looking back now we were just too clever
thinking love could change the world
ya know there's no point in waitin' hesitating
we gotta leave today

dokken had an album called, 'under lock and key'??:confused3

I know a song that has all of those words, but it's from the 60s, so probably isn't the one you're looking for. :rotfl:

BTW, it's "Let's Lock the Door and Throw Away the Key" by Jay & The Americans (before the rest of you start to wonder) ;)

Were those words just words in the song? Or important words. . like the chorus?

What about Green Day? Longview?
(I think I got most of the curse words, LOL. .. if I missed any, I apologize to any kiddos who may be reading)

Sit around and watch the tube but, nothing's on
Change the channels for an hour or two
Widdle my thumbs just for a bit
I'm sick of all the same old s***
In a house with unlocked doors
And I'm f***ing lazy

Bite my lip and close my eyes
Take me away to paradise
I'm so d*** bored I'm going BLIND!!!
And I smell like s***

Peel me off this velcro seat and get me moving
I sure as hell can't do it by myself
I'm feeling like a dog in heat
Barred indoors from the summer street
I locked the door to own cell
And I lost the key

Bite my lip and close my eyes
Take me away to paradise
I'm so d*** bored I'm going blind!!!
And I smell like s***

I GOT NO MOTIVATION
WHERE IS MY MOTIVATION
NO TIME FOR MOTIVATION
SMOKING MY INSPIRATION

Sit around and watch the phone but no one's calling
Call me pathetic call me what you will
My mother says to get a job
But she don't like the one SHE's got
When **********'s lost its fun
You're f***ing breaking

Bite my lip and close my eyes
Take me away to paradise
I'm so damn BORED I'm going blind
And loneliness has to suffice
Bit my lip and close my eyes
Slipping away to paradise
Some say, "Quit or I'll go BLIND"
But it's just a myth

I suggested this (post 25) & OP said no...

I give you credit for posting the words - I was too lazy to edit the song for the younger eyes. ;)

I was up until 3:00 am last night trying to find the Title/Artist of this song with no luck. It's driving me crazy and I'm hoping someone can help me! I remember hearing it fairly often on the radio back in the early-to-mid 90's (1993 - 1995). The artist was an individual, not a band and I remember very little about the lyrics other than the words 'lock (unlock?), door, key'. The genre is rock or maybe alternative.

I know that's not much info but several years ago I was trying to think of this song and I actually had someone find it for me with that little info. I'm going to have DH go back to that same person and maybe he can help me again but surely someone here on the DIS knows because this kind of thing can really drive me crazy until I figure it out.

Have you thought of anything else that might help us help you???

For those I was driving crazy, I figured I should post this: I remembered it!!! Laying in bed this morning I was thinking about it and it occurred to me the title was one word like 'faces'....close but, no. Then I thought some more and it came to me: 'Voices'. THen I was only a google search away from coming up with the artist (Russ, not Robert, btw) and lyrics:

Russ Ballard
If you could see my mind, if you really look deep, then maybe you'll find
That somewhere there will be a place, hidden behind my comedian face

You will find somewhere there's a house, and inside that house there's a room
Locked in the room in the corner you see
A voice is waiting for me, to set it free, I got the key, I got the key

Voices, I hear voices

In my head the voice is waiting, waiting for me to set it free
I locked it inside my imagination, but I'm the one who's got the combination
Some people didn't like what the voice did say
So I took the voice and I locked it away, I got the key, I got the key

Voices, I hear voices, voices, I hear voices

Chorus:
Don't look back, look straight ahead, don't turn away, then the voice it said
Don't look back, yesterday's gone, don't turn away, you can take it on

(Solo)

Voices, I hear voices, voices, I hear voices

(chorus repeats 3x)

Voices, voices, voices, voices - don't look back

Voices, voices
