Does anyone know if and how long the Grand Floridian is under construction for?

We just received our contract in the contract it states that the GF main lobby and convention center roof is currently under construction. does anyone know how long this is going on. i am getting married 1/3/10. when i deceided that i wanted to get married at the WP and WHR, my wedding coordinator did not inform me about this. we found out about this when we received our letter of agreement. me and df are pretty pissed off that we were not told but not surprised with the way things have been going with our wedding coordinator. any information would be appreciated.

i don't know! we are trying to find out. i am waiting to hear from my wedding coordinator-we are not getting married until 1/3/10 but still my entire ceremony, reception and pictures are all at the GF! i will keep you posted when i hear anything

I was in the Grand 2 weeks ago and didn't see any construction. I told someone in a different post that we signed our contract a year ago and the little blurb about the Grand being under construction was there too.
From what I hear, they are ripping up that horrible carpet on the staircase and making it a marble staircase (personally I'm peeved that the carpet isnt being ripped up now!!! I'd love a marble staircase)
Your photographer will be able to work around the construction if there is any. I wouldn't worry.

The roof of the Convention Center is mostly done. As of 2 days ago, they were removing the visual barriers from the highest point. There still seemed to be some work going on in the back, but it was probably just re-installing all of the accent lighting around the eaves and up the sides of the cupola.

Right now, nothing is happening in the main building lobby. All of the carpet was replaced last year, but things can change quickly.

Omg I didn't know that either!! That's were all my wedding pictures are going to be in june too no body told me that. I have a meeting with my planner today ill have to ask her about it and see whats going on

I've emailed my planner about it, so hopefully we should here back from someone soon. I agree with Lindsay22, the photographers will be able to sort something out. I just wanted the GF to look all pretty, most of my guests have never been to Disney World before.

I am also concerned about the noise level-if they are redoing a roof, there will be a lot of banging and noise. also alot of my guests also have not been there and i can hear my mom now....hopefully it will all work out. still waiting for a call from him which should hopefully (though you never know) happen soon. whoever hears first let teh other know-my wedding is not until 1/3/10...we will see

The notice should be somewhere in your contract.

I just found out that the GF roof renovations will be done in the end of April. I am happy since it won't affect my reception very excited i don't need to worry about changing my location!!!!

We had our reception at WHR and the roof was under construction, but I didn't notice until we passed by on the monorail the next day. Besides, they only do a section at a time so it realy isn't all that noticable unless you are looking for it.

Don't worry. They aren't going to be making loud noises when they know your reception is going on.

They know what they are doing. ALso, we were warned about the carpet being ripped up and affecting our wedding last August. So I don't know when they are planning to do that.

I just got back from my planning session. My reception will be taking place in the Grand Floridian ballroom, so I walked around the convention center. I did not see or hear any construction going on at all! If they are doing it, they seem to be keeping it under wraps!

Like Carly, we were also notified that the carpet would be ripped up at the GF. I had my pre recpetion in the WHR&P and the recpetion in a ballroom, and didn't notice any construction.

I asked my planner about it and she said that they stop the construction at the convention center at 5pm so if its after that then thats good and I was there a few weeks ago before that time walking all over and didn't hear a thing. And about the stairs they said that they do plan on replacing the carpet in the lobby and stairs which they havn't even started yet and they told me that the plan is to start the second week of may, but the granite is still in the mountain in Italy so I donno if their going to start any time soon. And when I found out about them doing the stair i was that was my many reason of taking pictures in the GF I sure wasn't aware of any of this at all intill alittle ago. So thanx for posting this cause if you didn't I wouldn't of known in till we got there.
