Does anyone know anything about the Sylvan Learning Center?

I investigated this awhile back and was told they build on the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - lots of repetition. I wanted someone who would reinforce the lesson my child was currently learning in school and they said they could not do that - I ended up with a private tutor.

I had a really good experience with them last summer. DS9 was struggling with reading and writing paragraphs/essays in school. He went a couple of times a week and they tailored his program to fit what he needed to work on. It really was a confidence boost to him and he was able to master the skills that he needed. The staff was great to work with.

Maybe it depends on the site you go to - but I know there were several programs once school had started to help kids with their homework assignments and study habits too. They seemed really flexible in their programs offered.

I know our local Sylvan's testing area SUCKED! I went there to take the GRE. It was quite cold outside do I had on a turtleneck and a sweater. Well I was taking the computer part of the exam and no kidding, it was 100 degrees in there, even after taking off my sweater.

About 10 minutes into the test I raised my hand to signal I had a question. They proctor came in and I said, "I am dying in here. Is there any way to turn on some air?" Thr answer was, "Sorry." Blech.

I will gladly drive out of town to keep from having to go to this Sylvan again. I can't imagine an 8 year old actually being comfortable enough to concentrate in conditions like I was in.

I have wanted to rant about this one forever.
