If you can count backwards you can make change. It really is that easy. I can make change faster than I can use a calculator.

Here is a quick tutorial. You'll be shocked to find out how easy it is.

The total is $2.75 each for two items. Bam $5.50.
.75 plus .75 is $1.50 just add that to the dollar amounts. Eventally this will be second nature.

Making change is even easier.

If their total is $5.50 and they give you a $20 you simply start at $5.50 and add money to that total until you hit $20.
Here's an example. $5.50+$.50=$6+$1+$1+$1+$1=$10+$10=$20. In essence your change is $14.50.

This also bestows confidence in the customer when you give them back their change while counting it to them. I'm amazed at how many young people nowadays can't make change. I can do this in my head by simply picturing the till. I want to put a bullet in my head when people count back the change they're giving me. "$14.50 is your change. 1,2,3,4,10 and 50 cents."

Practice at home when you have some spare bills to test the counting backwards method. It's so incredibly easy. You'll amaze your friends with calculator like abilities! In case you've ever worked in a job with a cash register and you can't make change you may notice older people getting a little annoyed as you pull out the calculator since they've probably already done the math in their head. A lot of us didn't get to use calculators in school.

Worked as a on stage CM in foods and also worked backstage in clerical while in grad school. Hated the hours...both positions had awful hours. Pay is pretty low to support yourself even if you had a roommate. If you and your friend are moving out here for school that's a different story. A lot of college students work there. If you want a career there or expect just to work there for a living...don't bother. Benefits are non-existent if you aren't regular PT or FT. Don't expect to get that status immediately.

Job is fun for a couple of weeks and that changes when you realize they want a lot from you. Its not a place to mess around in because if you do and get fired...you have no rehire in all Disney companies...that includes ABC, WDW, Walt Disney Studios, etc and that does make a difference if you live out here and want to find another job.

As for "magical"....nope. It loses the magic once you work there. It is just like any other place.

This is the exact reason I would never work for them. It's like working a Krispy Cream, Sees Candy, Starbucks etc. Bet after you work for them you never want to eat there again. Totally ruins it.

I've actually only had this experience with 1 of the places I worked and that was mostly due to a merger and the changing of corporate culture. Granted, I worked attractions @ WDW. My friend who worked food service didn't love it as much - but still loves Disney.

As I have lived in "the IE" and "the OC" and am currently out on the coast, I gotta say that you can't go wrong with CA (as long as you do your research - all areas have good and bad neighborhoods)!!! I HIGHLY suggest that you look into the College Program, even if your plans change in the next couple years. It's a great opportunity and the housing cost (while expensive) takes care of all utilities but phone. Check out this link for info on the DL CP housing:

Personally, I think the CP experience is better @ WDW, but I am bias. There is a whole different atmosphere as you are surrounded by Disney. Also, there are some corporate classes you can take through the CP there. And a greater potential for advancement w/in the parks (as I have heard).

Re: living off a full time @ Disney, would definately be hard - especially if you don't have an other things taking up your time. As Albort posted earlier, he has college, and doesn't go out often so he can save $$. Going out, on dates and a lot of the activities that take up the 18-25 year old demographic's time are pretty costly if you want to maintain. But, it can be done.

I worked as an entertainment host at DL last year and I absolutely loved it. I don't think the magic went away at all! When you're an entertainment host you get to work in different locations all over both parks so, you get like a different costume everyday. It was awesome! Sure sometimes guests will yell at you(especially in toontown...people tend to be very grumpy there!)but you make so many magical moments in one day that it's ridiculous to dwell on the one person who yelled at you! Working in the entertainment department is amazing... a lot of your shifts are a 30 mins on/30mins off because you go off with the characters. So when you are working an 8hr shift..its really 4. Also entertainment has their own break rooms with couches, AC, dvds, and you get free powerade when it gets hot outside! Loved it.

yeah, its pretty simple once you get the hang out of it. With the change returning, its pretty easy. We count back, its accurate and it allows guest to see whats given back to them

OC is a nice place, If you really dont like the OC, why bother come to Disneyland at all? Every place has its Pro and Con. Acting to harshly just stupid. So no one comes to Los Angeles because the city of Compton has a very high crime rate? Its seriously messed up dissing the county i live in. Clearly, people who dont like never lived here longer than me.

I was just looking at the link the pp had about the Disney College program. What a great program!! Since you have no plans for college this might be a great opportunity. It covers you DLR fix, gives you some valuable experience beside just attractions, food cart or custodial, and the rent is cheap! Maybe you could look into that as a jumping off point and expand you planning search from there. If you get in, atleast you'll know how things will be from May until January. Just my opinion but it sounds awesome

Was that directed to me since I said that not everyone likes Orange County? There are pretty much two reasons I visit Orange County - Disneyland and my husbands family.

And FYI...I lived out there for a year and a half. That was long enough! UGH. The lack of seasons was enough for me to want to get out of there. Pretty much the only Pro of living there was having Disneyland so close. That's the only thing I miss....and I can visit so it's all good. The Cons far outweighed the pros for me.

So as I said....Orange County isn't for everyone.

Ontario Mills isn't that bad even though somebody pulled a knife on me once. Victoria Gardens is pretty nice and they have a Yard House but I still don't think it's worth it.

There is a very good reason people from Orange County call it the "Valley of the Dirt People."

They're trying to shake that image but it's still prevailent.

I have lots of friends in IE who live in nice areas and do not live with Meth Labs. I say we stay off the topic of dissing cities since that is not helpful to the thread and is not on topic.

If you don't like an area don't live there. What you may hate about an area, might be great to another. Clearly a lack of seasons or temps over 70 are not going to effect OP since they are coming from Nevada.

Oh...and I was the one who said that thing about hating the lack of seasons in orange county. yeah...it has nothing to do with the original poster. it just bugs me when people like albort assume that EVERYONE should/would love orange county. that just isn't the case. if some people love it there...that's fine. but they shouldn't assume that everyone would love it too. i know plenty of people who hate it.

My duaghter just got an apartment in Tustin, 10 miles south of DL. 2bedrooms, 2 car garage, pool and whirlpool, 6 month lease, $1850 month. Agree that there are many bad places to live nearby.

$1850. yikes! two garages would be nice though. when we lived in orange we only had one. and it was impossible to find parking on the streets at night. such a hassle. not to mention my car got backed into on more than one occasion at that place. my hubby and i got into an argument with some dude at about 2am one night because i happened to be looking out the window at the exact time be backed into my car. jerk.

I don't recall saying that the midwest didn't have meth. We actually have a pretty big problem around where I live (I went to that website and I was not surprised to see the county I live in in Iowa on that list. As well as the county my college in south Dakota is in, and the county in Nebraska I'm building my house in.) It's a huge problem out here. And there ARE neighborhoods that's it's really bad in.....thankfully I don't live in one.

You'll notice that I didn't say that all people in the IE have meth labs. I was saying that maybe her friend (the person that originally made the comment) lives in a neighborhood where everyone has meth labs. It's possible. You don't even know exactly where her friend is located so you can't say for sure if there are meth labs or not. I didn't say YOUR neighbors are meth heads so I don't know why you're so defensive.

P.S. I hope people DO believe the stereotypes of the midwest. It'll keep them away. I like being a "flyover" state.
