Does anyone here work at Disneyland, CA, or have worked there previously? And could..

so spidey...why exactly does living in california appeal to you so much?

I believe they are all taught a specific signature to use when signing autograph books too.

And as mentioned...there are specific height requirements and whatnot for the characters.

Being a character can be very fun. Parade folk are a little odd but if you like to dance you'll enjoy it.

Tempurature can be problematic during the warmer months but you do get frequent breaks to cool down.

One thing to remember is that your motions have to be very exaggerated. If you're really interested in this you should practice a bit before you try out. While walking around your home react with body movement to things rather than using your voice. Make sure that the movements are large and deliberate since you'll have more to work with thanks to the costume.

These positions are also very competitive. Some characters get more time out than others.

I will just throw this one out there. If you don't mind cleaning up puke the custodial positions actually pay very well.

Honestly? I don't know. I just love California. The weather, the girls (oh, man, the girls!), the attractions, the scenery, just--I love it. I'd love to live there. (And the fact that I hate Nevada helps, too. )

I'll do that. :thumbsup2

I gave some thought to custodial, actually. Would one be able to get hired for a full time custodial position? :confused3 Might as well ask. And how would I clean up vomit? I've never done it before, so...:rotfl:

PS: What's "Third shift" custodial? After park hours? Or...?

I wouldn't mind some explanations.

im not too sure about full time as you usually apply after you get the job and see if they have any slots available for you to be full time.

Dunno about vomit. I know at knotts we applied these stones on top of the vomit, step on it and leave it there for about 10 mins, then sweep it off with a broom. Should be pretty standard at Disneyland too.

Third shift custodial is after park hours. You do get an extra .75 if you work that late. :)

As for room rents, i start looking in buena park. You can get like a 2 bed 2 bath for like $1,000. okay neighborhood i guess. Roommate situation, im currently living with an opposite sex. We work together but we dont really socallize too much actually. Its just a apartment and we share it and thats about it. We use each others stuff in common areas, never had a problem except when she scares me and when i scare when when we pop out of no where :)

auditions ehh? i am told that you audition and you do their dance. if you pass that, they tell you to come back and dance again. If they like you, they take you to costuming and see who you can be and etc. then you become that character. Im not sure how accurate this is but this is what my friends who was goofy and the other was Simba in POD told me.

Cleaning up puke on the ground is a little easier than off of a ride. A little sawdust, some spray on enzymes and a lot of paper towels. They give you gloves to wear.

Third shift is a different animal altogether. Those are the elfs that come out after closing and clean the place up before the next morning. If you want to have your days to go on auditions and work on your showbiz this is a good option for you. As far as I know they perform steam cleaning on the walkways, remove trash from planters and other areas, clean up gum off of everything, swap lightbulbs, vacuum carpeting here and there and general maintenance stuff. It runs all night and I know that they're just about done tidying up just about the time the park opens.

Pay is good too from what I've heard. I'm pretty sure it's full time and takes the entire night so expect to become a day sleeper. I know most people who have business to attend to during the day prefer to sleep before they begin their shift. This is true for most people who work graveyard.

Really? Hunh, didn't know that!

Now, for third shift, you can do your regular shift, and then stay after? Or do you do third shift/after park hours specifically as your job?

I'll check the place out. I'll be living with my best friend, we've known each other since kindergarten. :cool2:

Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2

Sounds doable, actually! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Really? Divulge [if you wouldn't mind]? :)

im gonna get my butt kicked for this but yeah, truth needs to go out.

Disney has made me pretty racist. even to my own ethnicity. All my accounts are backed by a story/encounter. :|

Well, if anyone is offended, im sorry. please PM me and ill remove it. Ill put it in white so you have to highlight it to read it.

Mexicans, they lie and they steal.
Story #1
Family of mexicans. this little girl wanted a weigh since i was balloons. i said okay and watched her run to her dad and gave it to her. i turn around and started walking to where im suppose to go. His dad shows up to me. saying his balloon flew away. I was like uhh, there isnt any string on the weigh. THen he tells me his baby was chewing on the weight and cut the line exactly were it is. I look at the weigh. some teeth, no bite marks. must be a really good bite or something.
Story #2
Family comes up saying their balloons flew away. I ask them for proof, ie weight of the balloon or a cast member that can confirm it. They say they threw it away. started threatening me. I told them, no proof, no balloon. Started making all these excuses. manager came by, told me to give up. ended up handing them 3 balloons they say few away.
Story #3
Family sends daughter to my popcorn cart. cut in line telling me she dropped her popcorn. i asked okay, give me the dropped box and ill give you a new one. says she threw it away. TOld her i cant give her one. After a little arguement, she was like, then can i buy one. I had a line of 20 people, i told her she had to wait in line.
Story #4
Turkey cart, bought 3 turkey legs. charged her on her card. Then she hands me the credit card again. im wonder, uhhhh. i was like, i charged you already. then she i discovered chips in her hand walking away and my 2 displays of drink in her hand walking away. was going to chase her down but had lots of guest. Then, i see her with another guest as the guest accuses them of stealing which turns out to be true.

African Americans - Act like gods or something.
Story #1
She yelled at me for putting more churros in the oven. FYI, it was right before the parade = lots and lots of people buying churros. cussed me out. I told her im going as fast as i can. she still told me "your wasting my time you blah blah blah blah" i gave in. 30 min later, manager and lead came by saying someone has gone to city hall and complained i harassed her. i explained my side and they just left.

Story #2
Lemonade cart, told me all the people who work here are racist. Saying the should recieve free stuff and this lemonade should be free. I asked for an example, he just said "Because you guys are just all racist" then took off with my lemonade without paying. tried calling him back but he yelled that im racist blah blah blah. :|

Story #3

Asians:
So, im asian myself speaking fluent Chinese. A chinese family comes up to me talking in chinese. didnt want to talk chinese so i listened in. the mom clearly said "give him $2 and act dumb" the total cost was $4. i was about to smack his mom. i was gonna be like FREAKIN A I SPEAK CHINESE. I AINT FALLING FOR THAT TRICK! i insisted they pay or im not going to give it to them, grandma gave in. I said Goodbye in Chinese and they kinda got freaked out. :D

Caucasian:
Some guy started cussing about his kids. Seriously, your here to have fun, dont do that. :'( His wife comes behind and smacks him in the head. GO HER! :D

Pros: many African Americans and Caucasian tip me the most. No one else seems to tip me.

I guess its just certain people. A majority of them are actually very nice. Just certain people that do it i guess. Im sorry if i offended anyone. :'(

SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY!

Well, jeez. Sounds crazy. :rotfl:

The one with the speaking Chinese was pretty funny, especially when you said goodbye. :lmao:

I am actually happy I never went to work for Disney. I would hate to destroy the dream. I love Disney and I am afraid working for them would show me things I dont want to know about.

We're supposed to tip the people that work at the carts? I guess that honestly never crossed my mind.

I lived in Orange for a year and a half (that was long enough...haha) and I considered getting a job at Disneyland. But I decided I didn't want to work really crappy hours.

SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY!

Probably not the best place to tell these stories but it does serve those who are seeking employment at Disneyland.

The park is most definitely a melting pot of cultures and pretty much all races have their bad seeds.

Europeans are also sneaky though they're not as crafty as the hillbillies I've encountered through the years. Some people have very elaborate methods to put one over on unsuspecting clerks.

The fact of the matter is that everybody is onto their scheming yet they do it anyway.

Very sad.

BUENA PARK LIVING
On the subject of Buena Park, look out for the shady areas. You may encounter a little more of the "street" element here. I'm about as white as a marshmallow in a snowstorm so I've gotten my share of dirty looks and threats living in some of those parts while I was still a resident of Orange County. Nobody ever mugged me so I wouldn't worry about that. Guns on the other hand were always a bit of a problem for me. I lived in Santa Ana, Placentia, and very briefly in Buena Park. Living in Santa Ana, I heard people lighting fire crackers in the middle of the night. I later found out that I was hearing 9mm gunfire which coincidentally sounds similar. I heard the same thing my first (and only) night living in Buena Park though these were much louder (closer) so I promptly moved out the next morning and got the tiny one bedroom apartment in Orange with a friend. It was worth it to avoid the gunfire. A few years later I was living in Placentia and once again. Pop Pop Pop at 2 in the morning.

The best advice I can give is don't live near the freeway or railroad tracks, wear neutral colors, and stay inside when you hear firecrackers. Sometimes they are actually firecrackers but many times they aren't.

Disneyland is up to paying around $10 as their "minimum wage".

This is slightly higher than the real minimum wage in CA.

It is EXTREMELY expensive to live anywhere in Orange County, CA. The cheaper areas are places I wouldn't drive through, much less live in.

It might be a fun job if you didn't rely on the money to support you financially. A lot of local teens work there. I assume many still live with their parents at home...

I would work there "for fun", but not to support myself.

When I applied, they were paying anywhere from $8.00-$10.00 for theme park jobs. It is definitely not a place to work if you are relying on that as your sole source of income.

I feel the exact same way!!!
