Does anyone here use flannel sheets?

I'm thinking of buying some but I'm wondering if they tend to feel heavy or hot? I'd like to keep our house cooler to save on energy costs but I don't know if I'd like these sheets. Yes, I've never had any!

I love my flannel sheets. But I am always cold so I find them very comfortable. I also have a heated mattress pad. I only use these in the winter months.
Make sure you buy good quality flannel sheets. The cheaper ones tend to pill alot and if you don't wear socks to bed the pills irritate, especially winter dry skin.
And try and shy away from printed sheets unless the print can be turned upside down. I have a set of flannel sheets with bears and fir trees (they remind me of the Wilderness Lodge) and I can't turn them upside down. I suppose I could, but it looks funny when the print is upside down. They always have to be put on the same way. This causes uneven wear on the flannel. I have another set that have a print but it can be turned around. I have had these sheets for about 5 years and they look new. Peggie

My husband and I ONLY use flannel sheets, all year round (we keep the thermostat at 67 all year). They are so much softer than regular sheets. I put regular sheets on the bed once last year and my husband threw a fit ;) . We bought a new bed (different size) back in the spring and I haven't purchased any non-flannel sheets in the new size. There really is a difference though in "good" flannel sheets, the ones I have gotten from L.L. Bean so far are the best, IMO. I bought 2 new sets (heavy weight flannel) on sale at JC Penney a few weeks ago and only used them once, they have little "balls" all over them after the first wash, yuck!

Thanks for the advice. I had no idea that they might pill and that they could wear funny.

I think that I'll go price some tomorrow, just to see how pricey they are.

We use them only in the winter. We keep the heat at about 56 to 59 at night. Its nice to get inbetween warmer sheets.

I LOVE flannel sheets!! But I only put them on the bed when it gets really chilly outside. I couldn't sleep on them yearround.

We use them in the winter, but I keep my regular pillow case. I like a cool pillowcase.

We use flannel sheets almost all year. We only use regular sheets during the hottest weeks in the summer. I agree with other posters.....get the good quality sheets from either Land's end or LL Bean. I have tried others and they are just not as good, pilling after only a few washes. My Land's End and LL Bean sheets are still good as new after several years.

I just bought some for all our beds from Lands End. They are so soft and nice. I've also never had flannel sheets, but really like them for winter.
we're keeping the house very cool at night and thought they would help keep us warm.

Yes, but not until it gets colder. DH objected to them for the same reasons you listed, but now loves them.

I love my flannel sheets, we use them during the colder months only and use the regular ones during summer. If you get a good quality ones you will have them for a long time and you will enjoy them thoroughly. My boys wore a bit iffy about trying flannel sheets on their beds until I got them both a set. From that time they changed their minds and now prefer them during winter.

We have some flannel sheets that we use in the winter. We love them and find them quite comfy. Unfortunately they get a little too hot in the summer for our tastes.

I used to LOVE flannel sheets - I still have my old set with the cutest polar bears on them! However, once menopause hits and those hot flashes and night sweats start......forget it! :)

Oh how I love mine! The ones I have are not heavy or hot. They are so soft and cozy and comfy. :goodvibes

I have a question.....With your flannel sheets, do you use both the top/cover sheet along with the fitted / bottom sheet?

We've been using the fitted sheet only during the last few winters here because I thought it would be too hot using both.

Have those of you in the milder climates found that to be true?

Granted, we've been experiencing record-setting heat :sunny: (85 for the high the last few days), so I'm not sure when those flannel sheet will come out of the linen closet.

We love our flannel sheets and use them year around, well sort of. This summer we used our regular high count cotton sheets on the bottom, with the top sheet and then the top sheet from our flannel set as a blanket. It worked out great for us as I get cold with the A/C on. I got my sheets at Kohls, but I will have to take a look at LL Bean sheets.
