Does anyone here suffer from insomnia?

slightly ot but in response to your earlier post! I was the member of several Mom's groups and found them to be a negative influence on my sahm life. I know that as mom's and wives there is plenty to "nag" about, but I think a much better approach is to look for the good in our lives. If we sit around feeling sorry for ourselves over how many cheerios got dropped on our carpet last week, every time I have to clean up a cheerios mess I am going to be very bitter.

What I have found much more of a positive influence in my life is to join a Bible study with ladies in a wider range of ages. I have found that in a group like this we all benefit. I know that I am a little jealous of those ladies who don't have to cut up someone elses food and they are a little bit jealous of me for having my babies still at home.

I still have a place that I can share my troubles, I have just found that in a more varied group of ladies I am much more likely to get a positive response than just a bunch of ladies complaining about how hard it is to be a mommy.

I am sure that there are many great mom's groups and I still love to get together with other kids my kids age and have play dates, but for a place to go and feel like I got something out of it for ME!!!! Bible studies have been a great source of comfort.

I have had sleep issues for a number of yrs, starting when my kids were little. I think it started because I would get them to bed, Dh would go to bed and that was the only time I had a quiet house and some "Me" time....Problem is it just kept getting later and later...I started using Melatonin and it worked great....Melatonin is even suppose to be a great antioxidant. I read that some drs are now recommending as a daily dose.
I had a hysterectomy 4 yrs ago and the insomnia hit me again....This time my dr prescribed Ambien....worked great but it acted as an amnesia med for me...After cutting the pill in half and then in fourths....it makes me sleep but not forget everything from the time I swallow the pill. The dr is letting me try Ambien CR, again, I have to cut it in half (I know you are not suppose to do that with CR). I have started to take Melatonin as a daily supplement at night, as well as an Ambien if needed (1/4of Ambien, 1/2 tab of Cr)

Yes.

I suffered for years and still do to some extent.

I finally broke down and went to the doctor and he gave me a precscirpiton for Tizadine(spelling?).

It has helped but there are times when I still can't fall asleep as quickly as I would like.

Zalansky,

I used to be a great sleeper until a few years ago when I got hit with anxiety and insomnia. It turns out that it was all hormonal. Have you had your hormone levels checked recently? With John being born, that didn't help much and even though he sleeps ok now, I find myself waking up and not getting back to sleep. I feel for you! :grouphug: As someone mentioned earlier, exercise has helped a great deal. It is tough though to find the time to do that with two little ones at home.

My doctor did prescribe me Ambien, but it made me hallucinate (it was sort of funny but it freaked out my dh) so I no longer take it. One of my good friends has major insomnia and she takes Ambien every night without a problem.

You have had so much going on these past few months as well and I think that this can contribute to your insomnia. I hope that the doctor can help. It is tough to be sleep deprived. :grouphug:

Jill, I am willing to bet that whatever dose of Ambien that you took was too strong. As I posted earlier, my dr prescribed 10mg....it worked great but I was loosing time. I realized that I had absolutely no memory within minutes of taking Ambien..I would have phone conversations, conversations with DH and have no memory...nothing. It was very weird..The pharmacist suggested that the dose was too strong...so I cut the pill in half....which stopped the amnesia, but still worked. I figured I would try to cut the dose again and cut the pill in 1/4's....still makes me sleepy (not drop dead, gotta get to bed as the 1/2 dose does) but still drowsy enough to easily fall asleep.

I do. I have for years even as a small child. One of my children is following in my footsteps. I am on ambien CR. I don't really reccomend that for you due to the ages of your children. I can sometimes be so groggy I am almost in a mild blackout in the morning. I also dont always sleep through the night despite this powerful sleepaid. But for me I wouldnt choose something else, I just know I have a bad case of insomnia that is hard to treat.

I would suggest talking to your dr and emphasizing the ages of your children before I went on any medication.

Zalansky, I hope that you had a better night's sleep last night.

I am so happy for you that you are going to be taking classes at the College in the fall - that's wonderful. You've had so many changes in such a short period of time, and with all that is going on with your dad and your sisters (I forgot about that until you brought it up and I can imagine how stressful that would be for you).

I do hope that you find something to help you out, and you've gotten a lot of great advice and suggestions.

I know it can be so hard as a wife and mother to put yourself first sometime, but you need to make sure you're taken care of too!!! I hope you find a resolution to this issue soon and get some well deserved restful nights of sleep.

Thanks again everyone! And Hillary - love the new pictue of the boys! How grown up & handsome Liam is looking!

And Jill I had no idea you suffered from this as well. :grouphug:

Last night I took the Zyrtec and Simply Sleep, the pharmacist said that was ok. I was so dizzy just laying there wanting to fall asleep so badly, it didn't happen for almost 2 hours. I think that I am so nervous of not sleeping anymore that it is a major factor in my sleep problems. DH found some info linking to this online as well. Well, I got up at 2:30 and 4:30 all congested...because of my incessant sneezing yesterday. Not sure whether it is a cold or allergies. But I am calling the doctor first thing tomorrow morning and going in ASAP to discuss all of this with him. Thank you all again for you stories and suggestions. It helps more than you know!
