I just started to play roulette (the 3 times a year I go to Atlantic City!) I wanted to know, when you win,(I'm planning ahead!) do you tip the dealer and pit boss and how much? I don't know anyone that plays this. Mostly they play slot machines. Thanks.

I play blackjack when I go to AC and I've only seen the dealer get tipped, I guess you could tip the pit boss if you wanted. The blackjack I play you have the option to put a bet up for the dealer.

Thanks Michelle, I played the slot machines last night and won $1000 at the poker machine, it was beginners luck. I have no idea how to play poker, just beginners luck I guess. But I was wondering say if you won $1000 at roulette, and the dealer didnt pick the option to put up a bet, would you give him 10% or what percentage.

Barney Vinson recommends 2% to 5% tip for a hand-paid slot win; makes sense for a big roulette win to me. So, $20 to $50 on a thousand dollar win.

Yes, I have played it before in Vegas. And yes, I have tipped them before. :thumbsup2 I don't have a set amount that I tip. It depends on how much I make.

Never been to AC or LV but we frequent Foxwoods and I play craps & roulette. Both places I have tipped but never a percentage, usually depended on the win. I usually round my chips up to nearest 25/50/100 and tip on top of that and only the dealer, never tipped the pit boss.

I am with Patsy.
I am not much of a gambler, but I do like roulette. I like to put $5 on two or three sets of "four corners". Sometimes I put it between only two numbers. I never bet just red or black and never double zero. :confused3 I have never won $1,000, but if I am up a couple of hundred after an hour or so, I tip the dealer $5 or $10. I would never tip the pit boss, I figure he's like management and probably makes a lot of $$$!!!

You don't tip pitbosses. As a result, pit bosses actually make less money at many casinos than the folks they boss. There's a big fight going on at the Wynn casino in Vegas, as senior management has decided to "correct" this problem by having a portion of tips taken from the dealers and given to the floormen and pitbosses. As you might imagine, the dealers aren't too happy about this.

Anyway, when it comes to table games in a casino you should only tip if the dealer has helped make the game fun, been entertaining or helped explain the game to you. If they have been a "robot dealer" no tip, no matter how much you win.

A typical tip at roulette is to have the dealer "keep the change". So if you are a red chip player and cash out a winner, toss the dealer any silver you get. A green chip player would toss the dealer anything less than greens, etc. Of course, if they dealer has been especially helpful/fun, and you cash out a big winner - larger tips are always appreciated.

I play blackjack in Atlantic City about once a month. I always tip the dealer (never the pit boss). If I am ahead or am dealt blackjack I will tip.
But I usually play for the dealer because its a chance to double the tip. Not sure about how roulette works, but in blackjack if you play for the dealer you put the chip just touching the circle but outside the playing area so they know its for them.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Had so much fun this weekend in AC. Roulette is a fun game for me, I would try and play blackjack, but I think the pros wouldnt want a beginner around, I would probably slow the game down until I got used to it. I did play roulette 6 years ago when I was in Vegas, I called my son who was 14 at the time and asked him which number I should play, he said 27 and everyone at the table played the number with me. They said it was good luck if a kid gives you a number. Now I play 27 all the time.
