Does anyone here have experience with Pottery Kilns?

At school we have the type of kiln that you put the cone in, and I think when the cone matures the kiln will cut off? i was the last person in the room so i'm kind of worried about it.

my stepmom is art teacher and also has kiln in her house ... my sister who lived at home until very recently, says it will cut off automatically
