Does anyone here do large quilting projects?

Such as full size bed quilts? And if so, do you have a full size floor model quilting frame?

I had one years and years ago that was my grandmother's after she passed away but there were no directions on how to put it together, so I foolishly sold it in a garage sale..:(

Any large quilts I made after that I just "tied off" rather than actually quilting..

I have two quilts in progress right now - one is a queen size, the other a full size - and I'm considering purchasing a quilting frame.. A C Moore has 50% off of any one item right now and they have a full size standing frame for $173..

I don't know what they usually run - nor do I know if that particular one would be a good choice..

Anyone?
TIA..:)

Sorry, C.Ann, I do all my quilting by machine, no patience for hand quilting!
One of my friends has one of the q-snap frames that looks like pvc pipes, and she says that it works really well. I think it's about 40" square? Not quite what you are looking for, but it might be a pretty good option for you, it would be portable enough for you to easily move from the lake to home.

Actually I quilt by machine now too - unless I want to fancy the quilts up by tying them off.. The problem is that now that I don't have my former home anymore I don't have a large enough surface to lay the completed pieces out (top, batting, backing, and edging) to pin eveything together nice and flat..

I'll bet the idea you suggested could be built in an hour or less by my Dson-in-law if I could find a nice photo or plan for it though.. Maybe I'll look around on some quilting message boards and such..

Thanks for your help anyhow.. At least it gave me something to think about..:goodvibes

When I'm not quilting on my machine frame (I'm a very lucky girl ;)) I usually baste on a folding banquet table, and use clamps to hold the layers together, pin the layers, move it around, re-clamp and pin the remaining parts.

There's a blog post here that talks about Sharon Schamber's method that she uses on a table with some boards and clamps. It mentions a YouTube video, but the link is broken. I know I've watched the video before, so you might have to search for it, it's probably still out there somewhere. I think that might give you some good ideas of options for how to baste given a limited amount of space (and not using the floor).

Here are some instructions I found, it should be easy to make and the parts shouldn't be hard to find at a hardware store

Here's the website where you can buy it. http://www.qsnap.com/

You can probably find more videos etc on youtube, but I didn't look (yet, LOL)

Thanks! You've been a big help..:thumbsup2 I was hoping to get the queen size flannel one done for me to use here at the lake later this fall - when the temps drop below freezing - but I don't think it's going to happen.. Not that big of a deal though as I think I'm going to bail out of here earlier this year to deal with some business back down closer to DD's.. I just have to wait for my Dson-in-law to get done with all of the remodeling at their house first and then I can leave..:goodvibes
